Humber Music's third Music & Masterclass noon-hour session of the season is open to all, and takes place on November 26, 2025. Professor Justin Gray will play samples and break down the craftsmanship and artistic vision behind the making of his recently released Grammy-nominated album Immersed. This cinematic album was composed, recorded, and produced from the ground up for immersive audio, with much of it being recorded at Humber's magnificent Gordon Wragg Recording Studio.

Featuring 38 musicians from around the world, a spatial vision guided the recording process; every sound was performed and captured with its place in the immersive field in mind, to place the listener at the center of a global orchestra - instruments and voices surrounding them from all directions. Each piece was written to unfold around the listener, evolving across a three-dimensional soundscape. The result is an experience in which the Dolby Atmos mix isn’t a translation of the music; it is the music.

In this Masterclass and listening session, Justin will share select pieces from the album and discuss the creative and technical process behind their production. The workshop offers an accessible introduction to immersive audio for students of all years.

These informative sessions are geared for current music students and open to all life-long learners who are curious about the musical process and the art of sound.

The Violence of Visibility: Who Protects the Dolls, the Boys, and the Rest of Us?

Trans Day of Remembrance

This talk reflects on what we choose to remember — and what must be done now. As trans people continue to navigate the limits of visibility politics, we ask: what has truly protected us, and what has failed us? To protect trans life is to protect the possibility of a more just, caring, and livable world for all. Join us in reimagining remembrance, solidarity, and action toward collective liberation.

Featuring Zariyah Grant

A trans woman, scholar, and member of Toronto’s ballroom scene, Zariyah is a Fulbright Scholar and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto, where she researches Black survival and the politics of deviance in postwar New York City.
