You are invited to participate in Humber’s Aging in Community Education and Research Hub (ACER) Community of Interest.

The Community of Interest (CI) offers an informal, virtual platform for Humber faculty (full and part-time), staff, and students to connect and engage in conversations about their shared interest in topics related to aging. This virtual 'brown bag' lunch conversation will revolve around subjects that matter to participants, such as articles they would like to discuss, upcoming events, potential research projects, and the sharing of research results. The community gets together monthly on the third Thursday of the month from 12 to 1 p.m.

To join our email list and register for the CI, fill out the registration form.

The Aging in Community Education & Research (ACER) Community of Interest provides a platform for sharing emerging trends, exchanging ideas/knowledge, and exploring research prospects within a relaxed informal setting.

During our recent CI gathering, participants shared/discussed the following:

  • David Neumann, professor in the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts, updated us about the recent Hackathon and shared examples of the student presentations.
  • Emphasized the importance of exploring technology for community, advocacy, and caregiver support.
  • Discussed the significance of learning onboarding, off-boarding, privacy issues, and data ownership and security.
  • Explored long-term care challenges faced by both individuals and care providers.
  • Discussed the importance of training staff to empathize with the experiences of individuals living with dementia.

The next Community of Interest (CI) gathering is set for 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

In this session, Alexander Shvarts (Professor of Social Sciences) will discuss an assignment his students recently completed that focused on the six ACER themes. Alex will share highlights of the students' work.

We extend an invitation to anyone eager to participate in this important dialogue. Whether you're a researcher, practitioner, student, or dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in our communities, your perspectives and experiences are greatly valued.
