STEP 1: Pre-Registration Phase
Start your journey towards becoming a real estate salesperson.
The pre-registration phase is your first step towards becoming a real estate salesperson in Ontario. You must complete this first phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program before applying for registration with RECO. This phase comprises 5 courses, 2 mandatory simulation sessions, and 6 exams, all of which must be completed sequentially as shown below. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete the pre-registration phase.
- Real Estate Essentials: Exam 1: Invigilated Exam (2 hours)
- Residential Real Estate Transactions: Exam 2: Invigilated Exam (3 hours)
- Additional Residential Real Estate Transactions: Exam 3: Invigilated Exam (3 hours)
Simulation Session #1: Residential Real Estate Transactions (35 hours): Simulation 1 Exam (3 hours)
- Commercial Real Estate Transactions: Exam 4: Invigilated Exam (3 hours)
Simulation Session #2: Commercial Real Estate Transactions (28 hours): Simulation 2 Exam (3 hours)

*It is important to note that prior to registering in any given Course, Exam, or Simulation Session, learners must successfully complete the corresponding pre-requisite. For example, prior to registering in Exam 1, a learner must successfully complete Course 1. Similarly, prior to registering in Course 2, a learner must successfully pass Exam 1; and so on.
STEP 2: Register with RECO
After completing the Pre-Registration Phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program, you have met the education requirements to apply for registration with RECO. To become a registrant, you will need to meet additional criteria including being employed by a registered real estate brokerage. For a full list of requirements, please visit the RECO website.
You must complete your registration with RECO within one year of completing the Pre-Registration Phase. You can start trading in real estate once you are registered with RECO.
Once you are registered, proceed to STEP 3: Post-Registration Phase.
STEP 3: Post-Registration Phase
To be eligible to renew your registration at the end of your initial two-year registration cycle with RECO, you must complete the Post-Registration Phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program. During this phase, you can choose two of five electives in addition to the mandatory Compliance course as you complete the final phase in the Real Estate Salesperson Program learning path.

- Real Estate as an Investment Strategy: Residential Properties
- Real Estate as an Investment Strategy: Commercial Properties (Fundamentals)
- Working in Real Estate - Rural, Recreational, Waterfront Properties
- Real Estate as an Investment Strategy: Commercial Properties (Advanced)
Successful completion of the Real Estate as an Investment Strategy: Commercial Properties (Fundamentals) is a prerequisite to registering for Real Estate as an Investment Strategy: Commercial Properties (Advanced).
