The Staff Lounge Podcast: Back to Class? How to Navigate Change

New episode of The Staff Lounge podcast launches today.

Back to Class? How to Navigate Change

Transitions can be tricky, especially now, in these times of rapid and frequent change. Approaching the long anticipated shift back to in-person teaching, we chat with Innovative Learning secondees Nicole Chuchmach and David Vazquez-Abrams and ask how they are preparing for the classroom. What did they learn from the online experience? Are there valuable lessons to take back to face-to-face teaching? We hear about the continued need for flexibility and compassion.

It’s been a learning experience for sure. And there are positives to take away from it, like those extra supplemental bits from teaching online that can now be incorporated into the in-person learning.”
— David Vazquez-Abrams, PC Design Foundation, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology; Secondee, Innovative Learning

Students really want that education and that sense of community. They’re willing to learn in a different timezone and wake up at 3 in the morning and listen to our lectures. [Many have] full time jobs and are willing to do this. I want to make sure I have content in multiple formats for them.”
— Nicole Chuchmach, Professor Faculty of Business; Secondee, Innovative Learning

Humber has always been a pioneer in education, and in accordance with this vision, dozens of projects are implemented by Humber every year. Humber delivers high quality outcomes, while catering to the expectations of our clients and stakeholders. Managing these projects effectively to ensure successful completion is crucial. We know that Humber has great people that are key to making these projects successful. But are there other tools that the organization uses to help make their projects successful that could help me too?

In fact, one of the biggest tools being used is Humber’s project management methodology. This tool is the foundation of highly effective project management practices at Humber. It has all the standards, best practices, templates, and guidelines to help you to lead your projects successfully.

We know that projects are not only run by Facilities, Finance and ITS. There are so many other projects happening in the organization that are led by our administrative and faculty teams. We have created a series of short videos with the aim of socializing the value of Humber’s project management methodology. We hope that these will highlight for the Humber community, the tools that they might use to help them manage their projects.

View all of Humber’s project management tools and resources. Stay tuned for upcoming future videos!

Dear Humber community,

Dr. Linda Jin-Troendle, BA, MA, MBA, MSc, DBA, Program Coordinator, Global Business Management postgrad program in the Faculty of Business, has accepted the role of Chair, School of Management in the Business Centre at George Brown College, St. James Campus, effective February 1, 2022. While we are sad to see Linda leave, we are delighted to see her take on this new opportunity and progress her academic career.

Linda joined Humber as a part time instructor in 1992. Over the next 21 years she taught a variety of accounting and finance courses in the Business Management, Business Administration and Financial Services programs. In 2013 she became full time Professor and Program Coordinator for the Global Business Management postgrad program. Linda has since played key roles in revising and updating the program’s curriculum and implementing the semester stream options in the program’s third and fourth semester, while completing her MSc and DBA. She has been instrumental in helping many faculty transition to online teaching, and in helping lead the movement of course outlines to COSSID. More recently she has coordinated the Global Business Management program’s preparation for the upcoming CQAAP Audit, while acting as Co-Chair of the International Graduate School’s faculty community of practice.

George Brown College will certainly benefit from her strong interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.

Linda will be greatly missed here at Humber.

Senior Dean, Faculty of Business
