Hello Humber. Earlier this month, we began interacting with the Humber community about health and well-being and we want you to join in the fun.

Last week, several Employee News Network (ENN) videos were shared with information on the College’s flu clinics, as well as on Humber’s commitment to health and wellness on campus and at home.

In the coming weeks, Communiqué and ENN will include content aimed at helping support a healthy work environment for all staff, whether you’re at home, on campus, or anywhere else. This may include tips, resources and other helpful information.

Through the Student Success and Engagement team, students will also learn about all that Humber offers to support a healthy lifestyle. Engaging social media activities and videos will highlight what students can do to prioritize health and seek help when they need it.

Next week, we’re going to share more about how you can be involved in showing how you practice wellness and what wellness means to you. If you’d like to get a head start and want to share what you are doing to be healthy, please send your stories, anecdotes, photos and videos to publicrelations@humber.ca.

Stay safe and be well.

Beginning November 16, Humber will be reopening fitness centres with some revised health and safety measures.

As Humber continues to limit the number of people on campus to only what is necessary, students who have a course on campus may use the fitness centre for their scheduled workout only on the day(s) they are on campus for academic purposes. The fitness centres will continue to be open to students living in residence on campus.

Humber staff who are working regularly on campus as part of their Faculty or department’s return to campus plan continue to have access.

All patrons using the facility must adhere to the new social distancing rule of three metres (nine feet).

Fitness Centre Reservation System

Humber Athletics will continue using an online reservation system for booking workout slots at our fitness centres. There will no longer be drop-in hours available and all on-campus students, residence students, and staff are required to pre-register their workout time.

Slots are available in 90-minute* increments as follows:

North Campus Fitness Centre – Monday through Friday: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m.
Lakeshore Campus Fitness Centre – Monday and Wednesday 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. / Friday 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m.

  • Can be booked up to 14 days in advance and 1 minute prior to any given time slot.
  • Select your campus from the booking page, pick a date from the calendar and then select your desired time slot.
  • Complete the registration form and reserve your place.
  • Limit one reservation per day, restricted to the day of campus access for students (academic purposes) or for staff (manager approval).
  • Any questions please email Humber Athletics.

*Please note your 90-minute session will include check-in time, use of the fitness facility, and departure.

As you begin to think about holiday planning, please note that Humber will close at the end of regular business hours on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 and will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Information Technology Services has three "operational excellence nights" scheduled for the coming year. During these scheduled nights, most (if not all) technical services will be temporarily unavailable.

Understanding that shutdowns of any kind are inconvenient, they are, nevertheless, necessary so Information Technology Services and its network of partners can carryout critical infrastructure activities on behalf of the Humber community including:

  1. Patching/Updating hardware and software assets against security threats to keep Humber's data safe
  2. Testing the organization's business continuity solutions to mitigate against unexpected service interruptions
  3. Optimizing the performance of key business systems to ensure a consistently positive end-user experience

Operational Excellence Nights for this year, as well as the next two years, are as follows:

2020 Dates 2021 Dates 2022 Dates
March 14-15 March 13-14 March 12-13
June 27-28 June 26-27 June 25-26
November 14-15 November 13-14 November 12-13

Each of the scheduled nights will start Saturday evening at 6 p.m. and carry forward until 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

IMPORTANT: Work of an urgent nature may, occasionally, necessitate additional service interruptions. In such cases, Information Technology Services will make every effort to schedule the work (with advance notice) early in the morning, late at night, or over a weekend to minimize the impact to operations.

The changes affecting humber.ca will take place within the smaller window of 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. During that time, humber.ca sites may be intermittently inaccessible as services are restarted.
