Humber Galleries' Instagram as a Canvas artwork call is back for the Fall semester!

While we continue to stay safe & distanced working and learning at home for the Fall, we want to celebrate even more of the Humber Community's Artwork and Creativity. This time around we're extending our themed calls to be a month long & include special online galleries.

The first call for September is a special one for all the Humber College Staff & Faculty. We know there's been a lot of creativity happening throughout our community during the Summer and lockdown and we want to see it; it can be anything from sketches to photography to music. If it's creative, we would love to share it!

Check out http://www.humbergalleries.ca/instagram-canvas or follow us on Instagram @humbergalleries for more info on how to submit! All staff are welcome to participate and all types of creative works are accepted.

Humber recently launched the Flexible Registration project to replace FlexReg, the system currently used to register students in continuous and professional learning and corporate training workshops, courses and programs.

This project will provide a modern, agile registration system known as Destiny One. Destiny One enables lifecycle engagement with learners from first contact and throughout a learner’s career. It allows Humber to continue to meet the needs of our current and future non-postsecondary learners.

The Flexible Registration project is an important element of Humber’s flexible learning strategy aimed at increasing access to innovative learning options and creating opportunities for revenue diversification. The importance of this project has become more evident over the past several months as a result of the pandemic: more than ever, governments, businesses and individuals are looking to short-term and rapid, non-postsecondary learning as a means to recover from the effects of economic disruption.

The Flexible Registration project aligns with the Accessible Education pillar in the Humber 2018-2023 Strategic Plan and with the flexible learning strategy outlined in Humber’s Academic Plan. Further, it supports the goal of reaching new learners and increasing access within the Humber Digital Campus Plan.

Project Details

The Flexible Registration project, which launched officially this summer will be completed in late 2021, with key deliverables expected in July 2021.

The project is led by Wanda Buote (Dean of Education & Training Solutions) and Sarah Peake (Strategic Project Lead, Flexible Learning Strategy) who are also acting as project co-sponsors, as well as Gillian Carson (Senior Strategic Advisor) and Jasmine Sanaee (Project Director). The project’s working group and technical project team are made up of internal college stakeholders.

For information about the project, please contact Sarah Peake or Wanda Buote.

As the initiative’s Executive Sponsors, we are proud to support the project team, on this important innovation for the college.

During the coming weeks, Humber Athletics will gradually re-open the athletic centres at the North and Lakeshore Campuses to on-campus staff and students living in residence. This pilot program begins the week of September 14. At the conclusion of the initial reopening phase, Humber and Athletics staff will review and assess the results of the pilot and determine next steps regarding broader access and services.

Phase 1: Week of September 14
The fitness centres will be open only to students living in residence on campus as well as Humber staff who are working regularly on campus as part of their Faculty or department’s return to campus plan. In what has become a challenging year, it is nice to have an opportunity to reach a positive milestone. On August 5, the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) celebrated its first anniversary.

HRMS was a major change for the entire college. I trust no one misses the manual attendance sheets in clear plastic folders, that had to be walked around to collect approvals and signatures.

As is the Humber way, our community embraced the new system and worked with us as we worked out some of the bugs in the system and helped us move through a few hiccups along the way. I’m especially proud of the support shown to those who developed and implemented the system and those involved in training others to use HRMS. Moving forward, improvements such as the recent introduction of the New Responsive User Experience (NUX) for the Absence and Benefits work areas will continue, showcasing our commitment to continuously improving the system.

Reflecting upon our manual HR processes prior to the HRMS implementation, many of which were time-consuming and inefficient, I cannot help but wonder how we would have managed to deliver our HR services to the College during the current pandemic situation. HRMS and its cloud-based features and the 24/7 HR Support Centre helped make the transition to remote work seamless.

As an HROE team, we have been resilient and nimble, adjusting to every new change or challenge that came our way. I am so proud of the HROE team and the College, for all we have achieved with this new HR solution. As we continue to deploy new functionality, enhance current processes and respond to user suggestions, I remain confident in our ability to continue to provide leading practice HR services.

As we mark this one-year anniversary, I encourage each of us to take the time to reflect on our own growth and learning over the year, and to recognize the value and significance of this milestone, knowing that each of us contributed to this achievement. Thank you all for your continuous support and collaboration to make the HRMS a great HR solution for Humber.
