$2199.00 per person sharing double (including taxes)

Discover an Atlantic island lovingly moulded by Mother Nature 36 million years ago.

This message was in a Communique last semester but many more Humberites have since joined the ranks of the retirees. You are all invited to join our tour to the beautiful Portuguese island of Sao Miguel, Azores. – described by Lonely Planet as “One of the best destinations in the World.”

The trip includes non-stop flights from/to Toronto, accommodation, most meals, transfers and guided sightseeing excursions. Visit stunning volcanic lakes, hot springs, lush gardens and quaint villages. Enjoy delicious Azorean cuisine and the ambiance of a European island untainted by mass-tourism.

This is a perfect end-of-semester getaway for all members of the Humber community.

As of Monday, January 23, we are pleased to report that the number of ill students has not increased appreciably and we are working diligently to ensure that this continues.

As well, approximately 75 per cent of students who were ill now report that they are feeling better. We are hoping to have this confirmed by Toronto Public Health (TPH) by the end of the day.

Although formal test results are pending, TPH suggests that the symptoms are consistent with a seasonal virus such as norovirus. We are hoping to receive confirmation of the source by the end of the day.

To that end, cleaning staff have been working at the North Campus throughout the weekend, cleaning high-touch and common areas with products specifically designated to kill norovirus.

A nursing station has been set up in residence for any students who may require medical attention, which will remain open until no longer needed. We continue to communicate with students on their status and to provide support.

As a precaution, we have disposed of all open food from last week (including items that are not packaged or sealed). Self-serve food, such as salad bar items, is not available for the time being.

We strongly urge all students and staff to follow these hygiene guidelines from Toronto Public Health:

  • Wash hands regularly using soap and warm water, rubbing for at least 15 seconds
  • Use hand sanitizer when available; rub one pump into hands until hands are dry

If you are experiencing symptoms:

  • Stay home until you have been symptom free for 48 hours
  • Wash your hands well using soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds before preparing food and after using the bathroom
  • Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration
  • Avoid preparing food for others

The health and wellbeing of the Humber community is our utmost priority. Please check humber.ca for further updates.

Humber’s Gender Diversity Policy outlines the College’s commitment to providing a learning, working and living environment that is free from harassment and discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression.

Below are highlights from Section 2 of the Policy outlining Humber’s commitment to privacy and confidentiality.

  • All members of the Humber Community are provided with legal rights to privacy under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("FIPPA"), which includes the protection of information relating to an individual's gender identity or expression. As such, the trans* status of all members of the Humber Community must be kept confidential, except as permitted or required under the FIPPA.
  • Grounds upon which the trans* status of a member of the Humber Community may be disclosed are set out in the FIPPA and include the following:
    • The trans* individual has directly given the discloser explicit and documented permission to disclose the trans* person's gender identity.
    • The disclosure is made to an employee or agent of the College on a "need to know" basis for the purpose of enabling the employee or agent to carry out his/her duties (e.g. to fulfill a specific accommodation request, to allow for the provision of serious medical attention that attends to or prevents impending and significant harm, issuing of payroll or benefits, etcetera).

Trans*: An umbrella term used to describe individuals who, to varying degrees, do not conform to what society usually defines as a man or a woman. This term captures the descriptor, “transgender”, which refers to individuals whose gender identity is different from their biological sex assigned at birth, and/or whose gender expression is different from the way males or females are stereotypically expected to look or behave. Individuals who identify as trans* may do so because they self-identify as a person who is any one or more of the following: androgynous; bigender; a cross-dresser; gender diverse; gender fluid; gender non-conforming; genderqueer; gender-transitioning; gender-variant; intersex; pangender; queer; a transman; a transwoman; two-spirit, etcetera.

JOIN THE CONNECT PROGRAM AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The International Student and Staff/Faculty/Admin Connect Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the experience of new international students at Humber College ITAL. We hope that this will be accomplished by creating an opportunity for faculty, staff, admin and Humber students to be part  of a “Welcome Team” that will engage with new international students through informal, personalized and friendly social interactions

  2. To enhance the feeling of hospitality on campus for new international students.
  3. To enhance the intercultural experience and cross-cultural knowledge of staff and faculty. Participation in this program will allow faculty, staff and admin to enrich their intercultural perspectives and communication skills while gaining a greater understanding of the goals, motivations and difficulties experienced by international students.

WHO CAN BE PART OF THE WELCOME TEAM?

The project will be open to all interested full and part-time faculty, staff and admin at Humber College ITAL. (Participation in the program is entirely voluntary.)

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
