Join us in welcoming the Friendlier reusable container program to the North Campus!
As of June 19, 2023, blue Friendlier containers will replace green O2GO containers.
Friendlier has been active at the Lakeshore campus since Fall 2022 and has proven to be an effective and user-friendly solution for the Humber community. Welcoming Friendlier at North will assist Humber in its commitment to reduce waste on campus while aligning with the federal government’s ban on single-use plastics. Over 250,00 plastic food containers have avoided landfill since the launch of #ReuseHumber, the initiative supporting reusable container programs on campus.
How it works:
- Receive your meal in a friendlier container and pay a $0.50 or $1.00 refundable deposit
- Download the Friendlier app
- Scan the container using the Friendlier app, after enjoying your meal
- Return your container to one of the many blue Friendlier collection bins on campus
- Receive your deposit back within 1-2 weeks on the Friendlier app
Starting June 19, all meals at Street Café and the Staff Lounge will be served in Friendlier containers, and in the coming fall term, Friendlier will be available at a wider range of food service locations.

After 23 years of service, Donna O'Brien-Sokić has decided to retire on June 30, 2023. As a professor and program coordinator in the Humber Film and Television program, Donna has been an intrepid leader and visionary.
Under her watch, the Film and Television program has gained international acclaim, with films produced there being marketed and screened at film festivals around the world. This is an initiative driven due to Donna’s experience as Executive Director, Client Services and Marketing for the Disney Television Group. The Film and Television program has become a leader in the province, producing an incredible number of films and successful graduates who have gone on to work in the industry.
Donna has also been instrumental in the development of new curriculum, allowing for more training options for students and resulting in enhanced educational experiences. Donna has been recognized for her contributions, receiving the Humber College Distinguished Faculty Award in 2019 and the College Innovation of the Year Award in 2023.
She has also forged industry partnerships that benefit students with the Director's Guild of Canada, Hot Docs Film Festival, Women in Film and Television (Toronto), and the Toronto Screenwriters Conference. Donna has always been an instigator and supporter of initiatives to increase access for women and visible minorities both within and outside of Humber. She has shown leadership within our program and at the broader college level in working to create a more inclusive environment for all students and faculty. Her colleagues and students will miss her dearly.

After more than 20 years of service, Robb Wright has made the decision to retire on June 30, 2023.
Robb is a dedicated teaching professional who for many years has done the work of multiple professors, going over and above the call of duty, spending many extra hours assisting students in completing their films.
A great storyteller, talented composer, musician, writer, tech nerd, punster, and all round amazing person, Robb has been a core player in the success of the Film and Television Production program. He will be missed dearly by her colleagues and students.

For National Indigenous History Month, Humber Libraries is collaborating with Indigenous Education & Engagement to highlight new and diverse Indigenous voices, histories and experiences across Turtle Island.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ange Brascoupé is from Kitigan Zibi (Quebec) and Batchewana First Nation. As a former chef, Ange remains passionate about what Indigenous cuisine is and the importance of Indigenous food sovereignty. She is a student at Humber in the Business-Marketing program and is the Communications Assistant at IE&E.

Pedestrian routes will remain open, with the exception of the stairs beside the Bookstore. The ramp will remain open.

To the Humber community,
I am delighted to announce the following staffing updates within the Academic and Students and Institutional Planning divisions.
As a result of her longstanding work, insight and knowledge regarding data driven enrolment and retention strategies, Corrine Johnston has accepted a new role, Special Advisor, Student Academic Success within the Academic Division. Corrine will report to Gina Antonacci, Senior Vice-President, Academic. Corrine will work in strong collaboration and alignment with the Faculties and key departments in the Students and Institutional Planning Division. This role will focus on research and interventions aimed at enhancing student success and retention.
Jelena Dukic will take on the new role of Director, Institutional Research and Analysis and report to Jason Hunter, Vice-President, Students and Institutional Planning. The portfolio will maintain the research, analysis, assessment, and reporting functions of Institutional Planning and Analysis, and will be a critical partner both within and outside of the division in supporting data-informed decision-making. The role will support strategic direction related to Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM), including enrolment strategy, Strategic Mandate Agreement, and institutional performance measurement and management of data assets. Jelena brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role having completed her doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2021, leading the Institutional Research unit for the past five years and playing an active role within Humber’s SEM and other internal and external committees.
Regan Mancini will continue as Institutional Planning Specialist and will report directly to Jason Hunter. The role will continue leading annual business planning and reporting, and high-level strategic initiative implementation planning and strategic outcomes monitoring through capacity building, project management methodologies, and recommendations for process enhancements and improvements.
