Two joined hearts with horizontal text, "Celebrating Humber Love", and a horizontal Humber Alumni logo.

Just like Valentine's Day is celebrated every February 14, Humber Love has become an annual tradition, telling the stories of graduates who met in Humber's hallways and classrooms.

This year, we tell the story of General Arts & Science alumni Martin Iyahen and Ndidi Arimah, who first locked eyes in class and built a loving relationship.

Leveraging Humber tech and the talent of Humber students, virtual and mixed reality helped take our happy couple on a unique trip down memory lane. They relived unforgettable moments like their first date and memorable trips and shared details of their future together.

Enjoy this 2024 Humber Love video

A special thank you to our student contributors:

Jacob Bruce, Game Programming
Sonalika Bansiwal, 3D Animation

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your special someone.

A memory aid may be recommended as an accommodation for tests/exams when a learner has provided information confirming that their disability impacts information retrieval. It is a tool developed by the learner to trigger recall of information. Memory aids are to be reviewed and approved by faculty prior to use on a test or exam.

The memory aid gives these learners an equitable opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of course material by helping prompt their memory, not by providing the answer.

This accommodation is not intended to reduce academic requirements or alter the standards by which academic performance is assessed. A properly created memory aid will not be useful to the learner unless they know and understand how to use the information it refers to. If the learner doesn’t understand the course material, a memory aid will not help.

Disabilities that may affect memory include (but are not limited to):

  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Mental Health Conditions
  • Specific learning disability
  • ADD/ADHD

Additional information about the memory aid process can be found on our website

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about accommodations.

Please email us at accessible-learning@humber.ca with suggestions for key accessibility-related topics that you would like us to address through the Communiqué.

Journal of Innovation in Polytechnic Education (JIPE) is pleased to announce the publication of Building An Interprofessional Practice Approach In a Polytechnic Institution Beginning With Health-Care Education and Embracing The Concept As An Operational Leadership Imperative by Dr. Cory Ross.

Abstract

Polytechnic educational institutions have led the way in providing innovative and dynamic programming to students that meet industry needs. They serve as leaders of collaboration and agents of change not only in their respective programs but also in the way they conduct themselves as responsible businesses. This essay chronicles a series of decisions and events that have allowed one polytechnic higher education institution to adapt to changing times and embrace a new model of budget planning for the future. The ability for the polytechnic to change and move forward is truly remarkable. George Brown College has been able to incorporate crucial new ways of designing and creating budgets that assist the college workforce to feel connected and determined to effect its mission.

Photo of DeepRacer competition at Humber

Start your engines - The AWS DeepRacer competition is returning to Humber College!

This is the world’s fully autonomous racing league with a 1/18th scale race car driven by machine learning (ML) algorithm. The inaugural 2023 AWS DeepRacer competition was a resounding success where student developers of all skill levels got hands on with machine learning through a cloud-based 3D racing simulator.

Humber College’s partnership with AWS (Amazon Web Services) provides an opportunity to integrate curriculum in a fun, learning environment for our Humber students where they can apply their critical thinking & advanced machine learning skills.

Students will meet weekly in the DeepRacer club to explore the challenges and solutions to find the best reinforcement learning algorithm to be implemented.

This event is open to students from all faculties and programs across Humber are welcome.  Interested students/teams are invited to send an email to Professor Mihai Albu at mihai.albu@humber.ca, expressing their interest in participating in this competition. Visit this AWS presentation for more information.
