In a recent research project co-funded by Humber’s Office of Research & Innovation (ORI) and the Lawson Foundation’s Outdoor Play Strategy (OPS) 2.0, Humber faculty members and researchers worked to incorporate the principles of Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing (in the Mi'kmaq language) in Humber’s Early Childhood Education curriculum.

The project was led by Humber faculty members Louise Zimanyi and Lynn Short in collaboration with co-investigators Bora Kim, Lyndsay MacDonald, Cara Loft and Maya-Rose Simon, supported by the Maamaawisiiwin Education Research Centre. The project team explored how a new Early Childhood Education course in Two-Eyed Land-Based Play and Co-Learning (ECE 234) engages and impacts the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical realities of the learner and faculty.

Watch this short video of Humber faculty members Louise Zimanyi and Lynn Short to learn more about this project.

By braiding the ways of being, relating, knowing and doing from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews, Two-Eyed Seeing honours the strengths of diverse worldviews for the benefit of all. The course takes place within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Alders” outdoors in the Humber Arboretum.

The research project was awarded a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) grant from Humber ORI. To learn more about the SoTL research funding opportunities, check out the SoTL handbook.

Humber Libraries has developed a self-paced Academic Integrity and Citation Awareness Module. The accessible and multimodal module takes an educative approach to academic integrity. It engages learners with scenarios, activities, and videos that introduce the values and practices of academic integrity. Faculty are welcome to link to or embed this module in Blackboard course sites using the Instructor's Guide, which details two options: one with, and one without, a certificate of completion. The module takes less than an hour to complete.

After completing this tutorial, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of academic integrity when engaging in scholarly work
  • Recall the fundamental values of academic integrity
  • Identify and describe different forms of academic misconduct
  • Recall expectations related to citation and practical strategies for avoiding academic misconduct
  • Identify additional citation resources and research support available through Humber Libraries

We welcome your questions and feedback at library@humber.ca.

Did you receive an Accessible Learning Services Accommodation Letter? Unsure how to proceed? Review the steps below.

  • Send an email to the learner to acknowledge receipt of the Accommodation Letter.

  • Accommodations Letters can be distributed to faculty in two ways, either by ALS through the Faculty Web Portal or directly from learners. Learners advise ALS of their delivery preference.

  • Learners with Accommodation Letters requiring a Medical Response Plan will be sent directly to faculty via email and will not be available on the Faculty Portal.

  • Carefully review the Accommodation Letter. If you identify an accommodation that you feel may conflict with the essential requirements of your course, contact the Accessibility Consultant listed on the letter.

  • Review the ‘Services for Faculty’ page to learn how to upload tests for learners needing testing accommodations with Testing Services

  • Advise the learner that they are welcome to contact you to discuss the accommodations.

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about the accommodation process.

Please email us at accessible-learning@humber.ca with suggestions for key accessibility-related topics that you would like us to address through the Communiqué.
