TTC Conducting Emergency Exercise at the North Campus 

TTC and Metrolinx, in cooperation with Humber Polytechnic, will be conducting an emergency exercise at the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) station located on the Humber North Campus.  

The exercise will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025 between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the northeast corner of the North Campus. The main exercise activity will take place between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. All exercise activities will take place either within the station, or on the LRT line just north of Humber Polytechnic in between the Humber and Westmore stations. The main campus is not part of the exercise area and impact to the campus will be minimal. 

What You Can Expect To See

Set up for the exercise will start at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. You may see emergency vehicles, along with TTC and other vehicles on or near campus, particularly at the plaza in the area of Finch and Westmore. The exercise includes approximately 200 participants, including TTC staff, emergency responders, as well as Humber Polytechnic students and staff who will be acting as passengers on the train. All exercise activities and site clean-up should be complete no later than 2 p.m.  

The exercise will make use of Parking Lot 5 during the exercise. Therefore, Lot 5 will be unavailable for use during the exercise.

Journal of Innovation in Polytechnic Education (JIPE) is pleased to announce the publication of “Faculty Adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence in a Canadian Higher Education Institution” by Jennie Miron, PhD, Mark Karam, MA, and Hanan Karimah Kiranda, MSc.

The landscape of higher education (HE) continues to change rapidly with the incorporation of new artificial intelligence (AI) applications like generative artificial intelligence (genAI). These transformations can be attributed to the ubiquity, efficacy, and quality of genAI applications. GenAI will necessitate the need for HE instructors to adapt and use these technologies to sustain and enhance student learning. This paper reports quantitative findings influencing instructors’ intentions to adopt genAI into their pedagogies. The Artificial Intelligence Acceptance Measurement Survey (AIAMS) was developed and adapted from the revised Technology Acceptance Model Survey-2 (TAMS-2) that incorporates the main constructs from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The survey was administered to a sample of instructors from different programs working in a large Canadian urban polytechnic institution (n=87). Multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify the main determinants influencing instructors’ intention to adopt genAI in their teaching. Statistical findings reveal that instructors’ attitudes toward genAI were the only significant factor influencing their intent to adopt it in their teaching practices. It is crucial for those in HE to understand the factors that influence instructors’ intentions to integrate genAI into their teaching practices to support and realize its successful adoption. This understanding is also key for leveraging the full potential and capabilities of genAI to enhance educational outcomes.
