We are gearing up for this year's International Day of Action for Academic Integrity on Wednesday, October 15, and we want your voice at the table! Whether you are a faculty member, instructor, staff member, or leader, your ideas matter.

This year, we are proud to collaborate with the University of Guelph-Humber and aim to include all Humber Polytechnic campuses in this exciting and important initiative. Together, we'll explore creative ways to engage our learning communities to highlight academic integrity's important role in learning.

Join one brainstorming session that will be held in June (date to be decided by the group) to help shape a plan for a meaningful, inclusive, fun, and impactful campaign. All voices are welcome. All ideas are valued.

If you are interested to learn more about this opportunity or want to be part of this brainstorming session, please contact Jennie Miron at jennie.miron@humber.ca by May 31.

Academic integrity is important and matters. Let's do this together.

Poster for Display Your Pride Contest

The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre invites all Humber Polytechnic and University of Guelph-Humber staff and faculty to take part in our Display Your Pride contest — a fun and creative way to show your support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community! We encourage staff teams, departments, and offices to collaborate on their displays and celebrate Pride together. The contest begins on May 26 and submissions will be accepted until June 27. We encourage folks to create and showcase their displays early so they can be enjoyed throughout as much of Pride Month as possible.

Participants can enter under one of two fabulous categories:

  1. Eleganza Extravaganza – Show off your flair, creativity, and vibrant pride! This category is all about celebrating the Pride flags — from the classic rainbow to the trans, bi, and other identity-specific flags. Decorate your space with bold colours, flag displays, and all the fabulous touches that reflect the spirit of Pride.
  2. Queer/Trans Trailblazers – Celebrate the icons, changemakers, and movements that have shaped and continue to inspire the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Use your space to highlight the contributions of queer and trans activists, artists, leaders, or milestones in 2SLGBTQ+ history. Think posters, visuals, quotes, and creative tributes that honour the legacy and future of queer and trans excellence.

When entering your departments submission for the Display Your Pride contest please elect one team member to take photos of your area and make the submission for the team.

There will be one winner per category, each receiving a gift basket filled with assorted goodies to share as a team! Winners will be announced early July via the Communiqué and email.

Submit your display via the QR code on the poster or through the submission link by June 27. If folks have questions regarding the contest or their entries please connect with us via email at lgbtq@humber.ca.

Let’s fill our spaces and our campuses with pride, visibility, and celebration.

The President’s Awards are a proud tradition of recognizing excellence among Humber and University of Guelph-Humber faculty and staff. The call for nominations for the 2025 President’s Awards is now open.

Humber and University of Guelph-Humber have had many extraordinary achievements over the past year and employees who have contributed above and beyond should be recognized and honoured. Now, at around the second and third week of the semester, it is crucial to reach out to students to ensure that they are staying engaged in your course. If students aren't logging into Blackboard and are missing deadlines, these students may be at risk, and we have an opportunity to help them.

There are two main ways for instructors (with the 'Instructor' role in a Blackboard Ultra Course) to access data about a student's progression, including their login and deadline adherence information through a Blackboard Ultra Course:

  1. The Course Activity Report
  2. The Student Activity Details Report

Course Activity Report

The Course Activity Report is easily accessible for instructors. This report provides insights into student engagement and performance within the course. This report will allow you to:

  • Identify struggling students based on their overall grade,
  • students missing their due dates,
  • the number of hours students have spent in your course,
  • the number of days since their last access,
  • and you can even set alerts to alert you if your students are falling behind with the points above.

Accessing the Course Activity Report

You can learn more about Tracking Student Progress using the Course Activity Report, or you can find more detailed information about these reports from Anthology's Blackboard Help website.

Student Activity Details Report

In addition to the Course Activity Report, instructors also have access to the Student Activity Details Report. This report offers a more individualized view of student activities, allowing you to:

  • Identify struggling students, students who are improving over time, or students whose grades are trending downwards.
  • Message students to reach out to them for support, if needed.
  • Download line charts of student activity data as a PDF or image, or the chart view as a .csv file to share information as needed.

Accessing the Student Activity Details Report

Learn how to access the Student Activity Details Report by following this step-by-step guide.

Find more detailed information about these reports from Anthology's Blackboard Help website.

If you notice that a student has not been active in your course for over 10-15 days, or has missed two or more deadlines, consider reaching out to them using the following message:

“Hello! I am your instructor, (your name here), and I wanted to reach out to you because you haven’t been in Blackboard in some time and engaging on Blackboard and in class is vital to your academic success." If you need to learn more about Blackboard, consider playing Blackboard Quest. It’s a gamified learning experience to help you learn how to navigate through Blackboard; it will only take about 30 minutes to one hour. I also recognize that there are a lot of external factors that can make engaging with course content difficult. There are a lot of supports out there:

If you’re looking for learning support:

If you’re looking for financial supports and resources:

If you’re looking for support with housing:

If you’re unsafe and/or feeling unsafe:

If you’re looking for support with your health and well-being (including mental health):

If you’re looking for support with an disability related academic accommodation:

If you’re looking for support for Indigenous Education:

These and all other student supports, services, and community information can be found at www.wegotyou.humber.ca.

Need additional support? The Innovative Learning Support Centre is here to help.
