As you may know, we recently had a planned 48-hour power disruption from Friday, May 23, 2025 (7 p.m.) to Sunday, May 25, 2025 (7 p.m.) at North Campus. While everything is back up and running, we'd like to remind everyone that food items in the fridge may have been affected by the outage.

If you left food in the fridge during that time, it's best to err on the side of caution and dispose of it. Thank you for helping us keep our shared space safe and clean!

In honour of South Asian Heritage Month, we are pleased to announce that a South Asian Employee Resource Group (ERG) has been approved! This new ERG will serve as a space for South Asian-identifying employees to build community, celebrate culture, and contribute to institutional equity through dialogue, collaboration and advocacy.

Founding members, Sonia Thakur (Accessible Learning Services), Sara Hassan (Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences), and Neesha Meminger (Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences) are currently working on the foundational documents and processes but encourage all Humber employees who identify as South Asian to stay tuned for an announcement about the first meeting and a more formal launch in the fall.

Background

Humber is committed to continuous quality improvement and engaging students in this process. Beginning June 9, Humber will administer the online Ontario Colleges Student Experience Survey (OCSES). This survey will measure student experiences related to teaching and learning quality, program related knowledge and skills, work integrated learning (if applicable), and student services and resources. The results of the survey will allow Humber to identify strengths and areas of improvement.

Administration

Students in full-time, funded programming of two to three semesters in duration who began their studies in Summer 2025 and are currently enrolled in their second semester will receive a personal survey link on Monday, June 9. The survey will remain open until Sunday, June 22 at midnight. Key messaging will be communicated to students by Humber to promote the survey and encourage completion. In order to achieve an optimal response to this survey, facilitators/instructors will be present in classes selected by the Faculties to explain the purpose of the survey to students, provide direction for survey completion and allot class time to complete the survey (approximately 10-15 minutes).

For questions about the survey, please contact Jean O’Donnell at jean.o’donnell@humber.ca.

Friendlier is helping Humber to reduce waste by reducing single-use packaging from entering landfills. Since the Friendlier program was launched, Humber has recycled 380,209 single use Friendlier containers. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Humber is expanding that positive impact with Friendlier to tackle food insecurity being experienced by students.

Did you know that you can donate your Friendlier deposits to the Humber Food Security Fund? This fund helps support Humber students currently experiencing food insecurity by offering a subsidy equivalent to $5 per day to dine on campus for the entire semester. If you become aware of a student is currently experiencing food insecurity and you feel this fund might be the right support, feel free to direct the student to seek assistance by emailing care@humber.ca or refer them by completing the online referral form

Food insecurity is an issue that can impact everyone. By donating your deposits from returned friendlier containers, your impact can be bigger than you think.

Here's how it works:

  1. Purchase your Friendlier meal and pay the included 0.50 cent deposit
  2. Enjoy your meal and scrape any leftovers into the organics bin
  3. Scan the QR code on the back of the container using the Friendlier app (download on Apple or Android)
  4. Return your container to a blue Friendlier collection bin
  5. Instead of redeeming your deposit, choose to donate the proceeds to the Humber Student Food Security Fund within the Friendlier app

Use Friendlier and make a difference today. For questions about Humber’s Friendlier program feel free to contact sustainability@humber.ca.
