A closer look at Chrome River Pre-Approval:

Chrome River Pre-Approval allows you to track your spending before it happens and proactively, rather than reactively, enforce Humber policies. Pre-approval allows users to obtain pre-authorization for an expense before a reservation/booking is made – for example, out-of-province business travel. Staff can create requests for categories such as airfare, hotel, meals, and conference registration fees which are then routed automatically for approval based on Humber’s business rules.

End Users:

  • Electronic submission replaces the existing paper/PDF-based format
  • Easily track a submitted pre-approval request
  • Ability to recall a submitted pre-approval request that has not been approved
  • Ability to attach supporting documentation for a pre-approval request
  • Easily convert your approved pre-approval expense report into a reimbursement expense report – eliminates double entry

Approvers:

  • Receive email notifications and electronically approve/disapprove requests
  • Electronically return a pre-approval request (i.e. request more information, request for adjustment) during the approval process
  • Quick access to view pre-approval request and supporting documentation
  • Streamline the approval process

UAT is complete!

Last week we successfully completed User Acceptance Testing. UAT ensures the system has been built to meet Humber’ s business needs. A select group of end users were invited to participate in four test sessions. The users tested and confirmed that the system is ready for production. Users tested Chrome River’s Travel & Expense module, including Pre-approvals and Cash Advance.

Thank you to all of the participants!

All Humber and UofGH Networks to Transition to eduroam on Monday, May 3, 2021

Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber are consolidating wireless networks to simplify and improve the user experience. On Monday, May 3, 2021, the eduroam wireless network will become the single network available to all students, staff, and faculty when on the Humber and University of Guelph-Humber campuses (North and Lakeshore).

In addition to providing secure on campus connectivity, eduroam offers simple, secure WIFI access from thousands of access points at colleges and universities worldwide. By using their login credentials, students, staff, and faculty can access the internet securely through the eduroam wireless network at participating post-secondary institutions globally.

If coming to campus over the next few weeks you will notice that other WIFI networks will no longer be visible, and effective May 3, these additional networks will be deactivated. At that time, students, staff, and faculty wanting to access WIFI will be required to login to the eduroam wireless network. Login instructions are below and will be posted on signage located on campus at main entrances and on digital screens for the coming months.

Get Connected in Three Easy Steps

Humber and University of Guelph-Humber students, staff, and faculty can simply login to the eduroam network once on campus by following these three steps:

  1. Select the eduroam network.
Go to settings on your device and select eduroam from the list of wireless networks. Ensure that you also delete or forget myWi-Fi@Humber or UGH-WiFi-Secure.
  2. Authenticate to eduroam.
    Humber – username@humber.ca and password
    Guelph-Humber – username@guelphhumber.ca and password
  3. Accept the certificate.
If prompted, accept the eduroam certificate.

If you have issues accessing the eduroam network contact the Humber Support Centre:

Congratulations to Kate Zhang, Colleen Ball, Brendan McLellan, Sandeep Bhargava, Anthony VanHoy, Amir Tavangar, Joshua Emmanuel, Bryan Nasim, Adel Nagaria and Bruce MacMillan on being awarded the League Innovation of the Year Award 2021 for their project, “Implementation of Humber’s Own Instance of IMathAS-Open Assessment System."

Internet Mathematics Assessment System (IMathAS) is a free, web-based assessment, homework system and Learning Management System. This innovative tool was initially introduced to the department in early 2020 after successful pilots the previous semesters. The Math department has since adopted IMathAS in nearly all its courses. The IMathAS testing engine allows for creation of randomized questions, which in turn discourage/minimize cases of academic misconduct. Options such as embedded videos, multiple attempts and live polls provide the opportunity for formative feedback. The questions can be added to a shared library accessible to educators world-wide through a Creative Commons license.

The initial adoption utilized MyOpenMath (MOM), an instance of IMathAS that is hosted in the United States through seeking legal advice related to data privacy and use. After successfully utilizing this platform for few semesters and the team was inspired to host Humber’s own instance of the platform. Humber’s ITS team and Math department have worked collaboratively and tirelessly to develop Humber’s own instance of IMathAS, managed by Humber and hosted on Canadian soil. Humber’s own instance went live in January 2021 and is being piloted in several courses with great success. The plan is to transition all MyOpenMath courses to Humber’s own instance of IMathAS (https://imathas.humber.ca) in Spring 2021.

Thank you all for your dedication in creating an innovative and engaging learning experience for students!

Congratulations to Bianca DiPietro, Samantha Araza, George Paravantes, Asma Arslan, Scott Fielder, Sean Doyle, Robert Blain, Cynthia Young, Paul Neale, David Neumann, Umer Noor, Cory Avery, Sarah English, Leanna Palmer, Heather Lowry, Vishaal Bedi, Terry Posthumus, Kevin Brandon, Bernie Monette, Mark Karam, Kristopher Ohlendorf, Adam Thomas and the FMCA team on being awarded the Humber Innovation of the Year Award 2021 for their project, "Playdays."

Founded in Fall 2019, Playdays is a week-long event held during the semester in lieu of regularly scheduled classes that allows students and professors the opportunity to engage in alternative modes of learning, application, experimentation, creativity, innovation, and of course, fun!

The theme of "play" comes from the understanding that engaging, curiosity-driven experiences can lead to deeper learning and more meaningful experiences, and that “play” is the foundation of how humans explore the world, building new skills and understanding. Playdays offers students in the Interaction Design cluster of programs the opportunity to break out of usually scheduled classes to explore other topics in a multidisciplinary, student-centric format.

There are four types of Playdays sessions: Play, Jam, Hack and Fun. Students who participate in nine hours of activities during Playdays will earn 5% of their grade in each of their core courses. Playdays are built into the curriculum to offer these opportunities to our students, and to encourage students to choose topics that might not seem directly related to their program of study.

Thank you all for your dedication in creating an innovative and engaging learning experience for students!
