Transfer Out - Partner Events

To further assist our students and alumni, Student Transfer Services would like to announce the launch of a new feature on the Transfer Options website.

On the Transfer Out section of the website, we’ve added a “Partner Events” calendar. This feature will make it easier for students to find the information they need when researching future study options.

In addition to this new feature, other resources on the website include:

On June 21, 2020, Canada celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day. This is a day for all people living in Canada to acknowledge and recognize the outstanding contributions, unique heritage, challenges and diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

At Humber, we honour the impact Indigenous Peoples have had on Canada as a whole and our College community in particular. Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in Michi Saagiig language. Furthermore, the Humber River Watershed historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples.

Colonialism and discrimination continue to negatively impact Indigenous communities across Canada, creating disparate educational outcomes in post-secondary education.

Despite these challenges, Indigenous communities continue to grow and have made clear recommendations regarding educational theory and practice. In response, education systems have demonstrated a greater willingness to decolonize, and have begun to weave Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing into curricula in support of learning for all students.

In response to the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Humber identified as its Strategic Priority #7 (under Pillar #3) “Healthy and Inclusive Community” to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty and staff. The supporting action is to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the particular needs of Humber students and employees.

The following two actions reflect Humber’s commitment to the well-being of Indigenous Peoples. Firstly, Humber will implement an Indigenous Education Plan, which outlines programs and services in support of Indigenous learners and communities. Secondly, Humber will honour authentic Indigenous voices by enacting the Protocol for Indigenous Community Engagement, which advances cross-cultural engagement, mutual respect and understanding.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity (the Centre) invites you to applaud the immense contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. It is also imperative that we acknowledge the historical and current challenges resulting from colonization and work towards full reconciliation.

Please join the Centre in celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day.

When we announced the closure of our campuses in March, we indicated that students would have the opportunity to complete in-person program requirements at a later point, once we could safely resume on-campus activity. Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement on June 10 about academic institutions’ ability to open for a limited number of programs as of next month, Humber will reopen a limited number of facilities on July 6.

A small number of Humber College students and apprentices will be permitted to return to campus in July and August to complete in-person requirements from the Winter and Summer terms.

Although Toronto and Peel Region are currently in Stage 1 of the provincial reopening, Humber’s plan is in line with the postsecondary reopening plan developed by the Ontario government, in consultation with the Province’s Chief Medical Officer.

With enhanced safety measures and guidelines to protect all participants, approximately 350 students and apprentices in the following programs will have the opportunity to return to campus:

  • Commercial Driver Training (Tractor Trailer)
  • Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
  • Electrical Apprenticeship – Construction and Maintenance
  • Industrial Woodworking
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Paramedic

Not all students in these programs will return to campus this summer. Students from these programs who have the opportunity to resume their in-person studies have been contacted directly. Faculty and staff involved in delivering this programming have been notified and are preparing for in-person instruction.

All programs will require enhanced guidelines to meet additional standards and specialized health and safety measures. The COVID-19 Resuming On-campus Operations Steering Committee, established to plan and lead the implementation of all initiatives related to the college’s reopening, is working with the Faculties of Health Sciences & Wellness and Applied Sciences & Technology, along with the Education Training Solutions department to ensure the appropriate physical distancing during course delivery and the appropriate use of screening and PPE.

On-site food services and learning spaces, like the library, will remain closed.

As of June 22, the MyHumber Mobile App will no longer be available and will be replaced by the Ellucian GO app. Accessing Humber information just got easier with the Ellucian GO Mobile App. Building on the MyHumber.ca website, the app allows students to sign in and access key information, including:

  • Class schedules
  • Student profile
  • Grades
  • HMail

Ellucian GO will provide convenient access to Humber’s website and social media channels as well. Once we are able to safely return to campus, campus visitors will also be able to access useful information without needing to sign into the app including transit schedules, campus maps, and other campus resources.

Download Ellucian GO for free from the Apple and Android app stores.

Quarantots Kids' Art Call

Quarantots – Kids Creating Artwork for Seniors and Essential Workers

Humber Galleries is excited to announce our new call for artwork: #Quarantots!

We love getting to see works from creators of all ages everyday and now we want to see artwork from a super special group of creators – kids!

Each Monday, we'll be posting a special weekly theme on our social media channels that we want to see all sorts of artwork about. Every Friday, we'll be posting some of our favourites from the week on our social media and we'll be creating a special online gallery for each theme for everyone to see the artworks that come in.

These artworks won’t just be online though! We want to bring some colour and positivity to the residents and front-line workers at long-term care homes. We’ve partnered with a few long-term care homes around Toronto that are beyond excited to receive some kids’ art that they can display. Let’s help bring more creativity and positivity and show them we are thinking of them!

Check out humbergalleries.ca/quarantots or @Humbergalleries on social media for more info on how to get involved.

We are excited to share that Humber College has been recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for the fifth year in a row.

The award recognizes employers leading the way in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.

Additionally, Humber College achieved a STARS Gold rating in recognition of our sustainability accomplishments from the Association for the  Advancement of Sustainability in High Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, is a rigorous evaluation of sustainability in all aspects of higher education.

AASHE's STARS program is unique because it is a sustainability-focused system, it does not only assess environmental factors but also social and economic factors at postsecondary institutions.

Some highlights of the STARS report include:

Sustainability continues to be one of Humber's core values and we are excited to be recognized nationally and internationally for our efforts.

We want to thank our campus partners who dedicated their time and effort to help us achieve these fantastic accomplishments. We will continue to leverage our partners' strengths and work together to shape a sustainable, equitable, diverse, and inclusive campus culture.
