Phishing scams occur when cyber criminals try to extract information, login credentials and even money from you by impersonating real people and organizations through email, phone calls, text messages, and social media. These may seem silly and obvious, but the fact is, they work. Over 93% of all malicious data breaches in an organization come from scams that target people. To support you, we would like to share some simple tips/advice to help you identify a phishing email.

There are suspicious links or attachments

  • Always check every link before you click it by hovering over it first.
  • Phishing emails try to take you to websites that are also fake and are used to trick you into giving login information or downloading viruses.

Please contact the I.T. Support Centre if you experience any issues.

The BID 2020 thesis teaching team would like to share the Bachelor of Interior Design Thesis Virtual Show with you. It is a major event for our students and for the interior design industry.

Click here to view the show

This semester brought extraordinary challenges and our students have shown creativity, focus and resilience throughout the process.

The site showcases our students' thesis projects along with several service learning projects which demonstrate our students social responsibility.  They have engaged with various educational institutions, charities and not-for-profits to develop design solutions for them.

Our students had raised money for their thesis show. When the show was cancelled, they made the decision to donate to local food banks. We are proud that these talented designers are also socially conscious citizens.

June 1st marks the start of Pride Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate LGBT2SQ communities and honour their continued struggle for recognition and equity. While we cannot hold the wonderful in-person celebrations that usually take place on our campuses in June, we still have the opportunity to recognize Pride Month and reaffirm our commitment to building a more equitable, diverse and inclusive Humber and Canada.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity invites you to acknowledge the historical and current challenges of the LGBT2SQ community in all their intersectionalities. Those of us who are allies must engage and hold ourselves responsible to end all forms of discrimination and harassment directed to the LGBT2SQ community.

Humber provides support for LGBT2SQ students through the LGBTQ+ Centre. Additionally, the College offers many educational and training opportunities throughout the year to assist us in building our capacities to work and teach effectively with our diverse students and employees.

In 2018, Humber identified as its Strategic Priority #7 (under Pillar #3) “Healthy and Inclusive Community” to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty and staff. The supporting action is to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the particular needs of Humber students and employees.

One key recommendation that has emerged as we work to build this framework has been to expand the Gender Sexual Diversity Committee into a LGBT2SQ ERG. Further, the Equity & Access: Employees Working Group has identified the need to address the hiring, retention and advancement of individuals who identify as members of the LGBT2SQ community. This intentional work will begin by Fall 2020.

Humber is deeply grateful for the contributions LGBT2SQ students, faculty and staff make to the College and to our growth as an institution of higher learning. The College is committed to providing an environment where members are respected and feel a true sense of belonging.

I wish you all a very safe, healthy and happy Pride Month 2020.

Sincerely,

Nancy Simms
Director, Human Rights, Equity & Diversity

We realize that it is only week three of the summer term, but with announcement of the mix of interative online and on-campus academic delivery for programs and courses in Fall 2020, we require your course material requests earlier than in previous years. To this end, we require your requests by June 12. If we receive these later there is no guarantee we will have all the options available for the Fall term.

The additional time will allow us to:

  • Research and provide digital alternatives in either or both PDF version and Adaptive Learning/Homework Management versions for as many courses as possible. Note: not all publishers have their materials available in a digital format, but we are working with a large number to get digital options loaded into our back office systems to provide these. In addition, not all publishers provide us with direct digital access to provide access codes electronically. Some provide us with printed access cards which we ship to students, but in cases where timely/affordable shipping is problematic or impossible, we can open card and send the code by email.
  • We need to research and verify each ISBN for each format, along with the price of each options.
  • Research and provide ways to deliver our course pack product. A number of these vendors are not currently open but should be for fall. Research whether or not we can provide a potential digital alternatives.
  • For custom products, we are working with publishers to deliver both print and/or digital versions.
  • Researching ways in which to provide both print and digital options to international students who decided to stay internationally for the semester. We want to be able to provide cost effective and timely delivery options.

We are working with our vendors on ways to deliver our program related kits to students via shipping or a form of curbside pick up.

Options available for course materials

  • Print: Textbooks (format Hardcover, Softcover, Loose leaf) - these options are dictated by publishers
  • Digital: Either PDF ebook or Adaptive Learning /Homework Management (i.e. Connect, Wiley Plus, Cengage Now, Mindtap, MyLab etc.)
  • Custom Textbooks: Reduced chapters or combination of multiple texts from one Publisher into a single volume.
  • Bundles: Two or more textbooks or textbook with digital card sold as one unit.

To submit your request please send them via email:
