We are writing to provide a final update on the After-Hours Mental Health Support pilot project that was introduced in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto (CMHATO). This pilot aimed to deliver essential evening mental health support during high-stress periods from February 12, 2024, to April 16, 2024.

As the pilot concludes, we're excited to share some key highlights. Attached, you will find a high-level report from CMHATO.

We want to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to CMHATO for their dedicated care and support of our learners throughout this project. We also thank our Humber community, including staff and faculty members who promoted the service. This successful collaboration emphasizes the importance of fostering a supportive community around our learners. To learn more about CMHATO, please visit About CMHA Toronto - CMHA Toronto.

In the coming weeks, we will be discussing the future of the pilot. Meanwhile, we invite you to share your valuable feedback with Gabriela Yepez at gabriela.yepez@humber.ca.

Thank you for your unwavering support as we continue our collective efforts to prioritize the mental health and well-being of our learners!

Occupational Health and Safety Services

As we head into the summer months, we welcome many new workers to our campuses. As part of Humber’s commitment to creating a safe and healthy workplace, and in compliance with legislated requirements, all Humber employees are required to complete health and safety training. This also applies to all summer employees, including work-study and other student workers.

Humber’s online Employee Health & Safety Awareness Course is accessible via Blackboard and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. The course provides all employees with a basic understanding of workplace health and safety at Humber, and outlines rights and responsibilities as a Humber employee. To register, please email healthandsafety@humber.ca and provide the following information:

  • First and last name
  • Employee number (n-number)
  • Department/Faculty
  • Manager/Associate Dean name
  • Start of employment/contract

In addition, certain roles will require additional training for potential or existing hazards that may be present in your specific workplace. Speak with your manager to determine if additional safety training is required.

We invite all new employees to review the Safety Awareness for New & Young Workers at Humber brochure.

Humber alumnus Jordan Bushell sitting in front of a camera in a video studio.

Jordan Bushell is a Humber Film and Television Production alumnus who found his place at global advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi after graduating, executing various campaigns alongside a fellow Humber grad.

Meanwhile, through different occupations in the Toronto bar and restaurant scene, Jordan developed his craft as a mixologist, competing in and winning numerous cocktail competitions.

His combined experiences led to Jordan's position as Global Brand Ambassador & Manager of Trade Advocacy at Hennessy, where he travels the world educating on the leading beverage brand and lending his knowledge to consumers, bartenders and the broader hospitality community.

He also launched a podcast titled 'Bartenders in Bars with Booze' bringing back the skills he obtained at Humber and sharing industry perspectives of individuals from food and drink hot spots and hidden gems.

10 to 15 per cent of post-secondary learners live with a disability, whether visible or invisible. Many learners with disabilities have functional limitations impacting reading.

As faculty, you may receive Accommodation Letters listing text-to-speech as a required accommodation for a learner. Text-to-speech tools convert written text into spoken words.

In addition to being a convenient tool built into our phones, tablets and computers and more, text-to-speech tools are essential to learners experiencing disability-related functional limitations in areas such as reading comprehension, processing speed, decoding and attention.

Please check out the links below to see how to access text-to-speech support in the devices and software you use every day:

Read and Write

In addition to these built-in tools, all Humber and Guelph-Humber students and staff can access Read and Write software free of charge. This tool can be installed on Windows and Mac computers or used as an extension in Chrome or Edge web browsers.

Please view the instructions below for how to install this software/extension:

Use this link to learn about how to use the text-to-speech tools and more in Read and Write.

For more information on these and other assistive technology tools, please see this link for our Assistive Technology Resource Booklet.

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about accommodating students with disabilities.

Please email us at accessible-learning@humber.ca with suggestions for key accessibility-related topics that you would like us to address through the Communiqué.
