Real estate is a regulated profession in Ontario, so all salespersons and brokers must be registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). The Real Estate Salesperson Program, delivered by Humber Polytechnic, is your first step towards becoming a real estate professional in Ontario.

Learning Path

The Real Estate Salesperson Program has been designed for your success. You can apply and start your coursework at any point during the year, without the commitment of a full-time, semester-based program. The program learning path comprises of three steps.

The Pre-Registration Phase of the program is comprised of 5 courses, 4 exams and 2 simulation sessions which must be completed sequentially. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete pre-registration. This includes up to 21 weeks per course for your first four courses and 4 weeks to complete course 5.

Upon completing Step 1, you are now eligible to register with RECO. You have one year to complete your registration from the time you complete pre-registration. You can start trading in real estate once you are registered with RECO.

To be eligible to renew your registration at the end of your initial two-year registration cycle with RECO, you must complete the Post-Registration Phase. Complete the mandatory compliance course and then complete any two of the remaining 5 electives. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete your Post-Registration Phase. This includes up to 4 weeks per course.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission to the Real Estate Salesperson Program, an applicant must have obtained a Canadian secondary school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants that do not have a Canadian secondary school diploma or GED Certificate may provide acceptable equivalency credentials. A list of these acceptable equivalency credentials is available on the admissions requirements page.

Alternatively, the Real Estate Education Program Office offers a Salesperson Program Admission Exam to applicants without a secondary school diploma or equivalent. Learners who successfully complete this exam can then apply to the Real Estate Salesperson Program.

All Program components and support services are delivered in English. Learners should possess strong English writing, comprehension and speaking skills to be able to successfully complete the program.

Fees

The Real Estate Salesperson Program has been designed to follow a pay as you go model. That means you pay for each component of the program as you progress through the program instead of paying the total program fees all at once. This pay as you go structure helps you manage the expenses of embarking on a new career.
