Please read and share the first newsletter: SSC Newsletter - March 2022

The SSC is a cross-institutional advisory body to the president and executive team that provides integrated, collaborative, evidence-based advice to ensure Humber's commitment to sustainability is reflected in planning and decision-making across the college.

Thank you to all our Support Staff who attended the 2022 Support Staff Professional Development virtual event.

For those of you that missed the event, or if you would like to view the sessions again, a few of the recordings are now available on the HROE website. Under the Details and Registration section, click “View Recording” for any sessions that are available. We will continue adding recordings once they are ready to view. Please continue to check the website for updates.

To view the recorded sessions, you will be required to log in to Panopto using your Humber single sign-on credentials.

For the “Making Conflict Work” and “Defining the Line: Setting and Maintaining Healthy Boundaries” sessions, you will be directed to a document with instructions on how to access an external portal provided by TEND Academy. To access the document, you will need to log in to SharePoint using your Humber credentials. The portal houses pre-recorded sessions along with additional resources shared by the facilitators.

Please note all recordings will be available until March 31, 2022.

It is with very mixed emotions, I announce the resignation of Dr. Amanda Baskwill from Humber College effective April 29, 2022. Having served Humber since 2009 as Program Coordinator (Massage Therapy Advanced Diploma), Professor (School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism), Researcher (Research, Innovation & Scholarship) and most recently, Associate Dean (Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness), Amanda has demonstrated commitment, dedication, and passion for student success, employee culture, and overall excellence in everything in which she has engaged.

Throughout her time in the Faculty of HS&W, Amanda has contributed to several significant initiatives, including Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice and Evaluation of Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods. Recently she has led the design, submission, and approval stages of a new Diploma Program to be offered in Fall 2023.

Although a loss for Humber, the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness wishes Amanda well as she transitions to a Decanal role at Loyalist College. Please join us in thanking Amanda for everything she has contributed to our students, our employee groups, our faculty, and the College overall, and wish her well as she moves into the next phase of her career.

Welcome to the Zen Zone!

If you've been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, you are not alone. In the midst of our busy days, it's so important to take care of yourself and set aside intentional time (no matter how short) to decompress.

The Zen Zone is designed to be a safe space to unwind, whether that is through stretching, meditating or simply laying down to relax.

Starting Monday, March 14, every Monday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Studio B (A227) will be transformed into the Zen Zone and is open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yoga mats, blankets, and pillows will be provided.  An instructor will be there to guide you through the experience and to help with any issues that may arise.

Please share this info with your students.

Following recent provincial announcements about changes to Ontario’s reopening, we wanted to provide an update on Humber’s masking requirements.

To provide certainty for students and employees, Humber will maintain the current masking requirements until at least the end of the winter term. Masks must continue to be worn in all Humber buildings.

We will be reviewing plans for the Summer 2022 term this month and will communicate any policy changes for it and future terms to the Humber community.

As previously communicated, Humber’s Vaccination Policy also remains in place until at least the end of the winter term.

Anyone coming to Humber campuses must upload proof of vaccination or an approved medical exemption to the Humber Guardian app. This proof along with a completed daily screening must be shown.

Proof of vaccination may only be submitted to the Humber Guardian App using the provincial Enhanced Vaccine Certificate (QR Code). These submissions will be verified and approved almost instantly. Public Safety officers at campus entryways will also be equipped with scanners to verify the QR codes on provincial Enhanced Vaccine Certificate.
