You are invited to contribute to the 2026 Journal of Innovation in Polytechnic Education (JIPE) special issue 'Beyond Skills: Building Work-Ready Intelligence', recognizing your vital role in advancing applied learning for impact in a rapidly changing world of work. Graduates are entering workplaces shaped by changing roles and advanced technologies, including AI-enabled systems, automation, data-intensive tools, digital platforms, and evolving technical infrastructures across sectors. In these dynamic environments, technical skill proficiency alone is insufficient.

What is increasingly required is work-ready intelligence.

In this special issue, work-ready intelligence is understood as a graduate’s capacity to exercise sound human judgement, ethical accountability, and adaptive learning while working within technology-rich and AI-enabled organizational systems.

We invite submissions that go beyond making applied learning visible to critically examining how applied learning cultivates work-ready intelligence in practice.

The Grab 'n Go Food Bank at the Learning Commons (L1000) is a Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences partnership with the Library, the Faculty Union (Local 562), the Support Staff Union (Local 563) and Advising and Career Services.

For the winter semester, the Grab 'n Go at the Lakeshore Learning Commons (L1000) will run every Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m.

How does the Food Bank work?

  • Members of the Humber community who are experiencing food insecurity or hardship are encouraged to stop by the Lakeshore Learning Commons (L1000) between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • There you will encounter a cart with a selection of non-perishable and perishable food items.
  • Allergen-free foods are also available and stored in separate boxes.
  • You can take what you need. It's that easy!

Can I help?

Yes. Food donations are always welcome and appreciated. All donations can be dropped off at Lakeshore's MED building, 3rd floor, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Together, let's help fight food insecurity and ensure all members of our Humber community have access to food.

Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus has officially transitioned from a 1970s-era steam heating system to a modern, low-temperature hot water network.

This new system began heating all North Campus buildings in November 2025 and enables the use of low-carbon electric boilers and heat pumps. Project SWITCH is expected to reduce campus carbon emissions by 40 per cent and is a major milestone in Humber’s journey to achieving net zero by 2029.

SWITCH is part of the wider Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP), which has helped Humber save $14 million in utility costs since its implementation in 2014. This goes to show that sustainability benefits the environment and is also financially beneficial in the long-term.
