The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences is offering the Vietnam Study Abroad: Hanoi & Danang course to students across Humber. The course delivery in collaboration with international partner universities offers a fantastic opportunity for Humber students to develop their global experience and intercultural competencies while earning Humber credits for a general education (MILE 220) or Degree breadth elective course (MILE 2200). Students will work closely with two Humber faculty who lead the trip and staff, faculty and students at National Economics University and University of Danang, Vietnam. The course provides students with experiential learning, site visits, field trips, community services and opportunities to network with local faculty and students during almost three weeks in the cities in Vietnam (Hanoi, the capital, in the North and Danang, the driving force of development in the Central - Highland Region).

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding and appreciation of Vietnam, its history, culture, ethnic diversity, religion, business environment and people;
  • Broaden inter-cultural awareness;
  • Enhance cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Increase self-confidence and transferrable skills through a complete immersion in an international environment.

Watch this video of one of our students and teachers sharing their own experience and what students could expect to gain from the trip and find out more about this opportunity in our attached flyer.

The Program fee is $7,100 + Humber regular course tuition. It covers multi-city airfares (Toronto – Hanoi – Danang – Toronto), travel health insurance, accommodations at hotels, breakfast every day, lunch on weekdays, site visits, field trips and local transportation for all scheduled activities. Students will be eligible for a bursary of up to $4,000, depending on their financial needs.

We highly appreciate it if Humber faculty, Program Coordinators and staff could help to share this course with students as an incredible option for them to get a Humber credit for a general education or degree-breadth elective course.

Please connect with Kimmy Do, Manager, Global Initiatives and Partnership Development (Kimmy.do@humber.ca) if you have any questions.

Next storage clean-up date: Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

On that date, all Live, DEVU, and MSTR courses from Fall 2022 will be deleted from Humber systems. This includes all Banner- and Destiny 1-generated courses.

Please note the future dates for this academic year:

  • May 31, 2024 - All Live, DEVU and MSTR courses from Winter 2023 will be deleted from Humber systems.

System clean-ups are scheduled following good practices for data and storage management. Humber's practice is to retain past courses for one year plus one semester (e.g. last year's Fall 2023 courses will be retained through the current Fall 2024 semester. These are accessible to profs under "past courses" in Bb until the time of deletion at the start of Winter 2025).

IL recommends faculty back up and archive Blackboard courses at the end of each semester. Most sites take no more than 10 minutes to archive. OneDrive is available to all faculty for file storage.

Tip: OneDrive is also a helpful resource when sharing course files with multiple instructors at the start of each semester, and saves everyone the potential hassle of trying to share content from within Blackboard courses.

Support for OneDrive is available from ITS, and support for learning how to back up and archive courses is available from the IL Support Centre.

Eva Ziemsen poses holding an award plaque during the President's Awards ceremony

Dr. Eva Ziemsen, Ph.D., professor in the Faculty of Media & Creative Arts (FMCA) at Humber College, describes herself as an a/r/tographer – an artist, researcher, and teacher. This is quite evident in her doctoral research methodology which was grounded in creative practice research and her interest in applied research. It is this interest that led her to conduct research at Humber.

Along with Elizabeth Fenuta, her co-research lead and a professor at Humber’s Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology, Dr. Ziemsen conducted two research projects related to the metaverse, with the first one receiving the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Seed and Cultivate grant (SoTL) from Humber’s Office of Research & Innovation in September 2022.

To know more about Dr. Ziemsen’s experience conducting research, we interviewed her in our latest article.
