At Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber, supporting the implementation of academic accommodations is a collaborative effort involving faculty, staff, and learners. Faculty play a critical role in ensuring accommodations are effectively realized in the learning environment, creating inclusive academic spaces and enhancing learner success.

To assist faculty in navigating the accommodation process, Accessible Learning Services (ALS) is pleased to offer three asynchronous modules available on the HRMS LEARN platform. These modules have undergone a high-level review by members of the Humber community, including the Centre for Innovative Learning. These modules are designed to provide faculty with practical tools for responding to accommodation requests and integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Each module is grounded in the social model of disability, shifting the focus from individual challenges to addressing barriers within the learning environment.

The modules available on the HRMS LEARN platform include:

  1. Module 1: Responding to Accommodation Letters : Steps for understanding and addressing accommodation requests.
  2. Module 2: Implementing Academic Accommodations : Steps to determine whether an element of your course is an essential requirement and a review of the most frequently accessed academic accommodations.
  3. Module 3: Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL): An overview of UDL and its application in creating accessible learning environments.

These modules align with Humber’s commitment to inclusivity and student success, offering practical steps faculty can take to ensure their classrooms are welcoming and accessible to all. Faculty are encouraged to explore these resources to better understand their role in the accommodation process and enhance their teaching practices in ways that benefit every learner.

Panopto is Humber’s video platform designed for creating, managing, and sharing video content for educational purposes. It allows instructors to record lectures, create instructional videos, and share visual content with students.

Phase 1: Retiring Older Panopto Video Files
Date: February 9, 2025

To optimize system performance and resources, any videos stored in the Humber Panopto Platform that have not been viewed in the last three years will be automatically deleted on February 9. This is the first stage of a multi-phased initiative to improve file management practices and maintain the health of our tools.

What You Need to Know:

  • Action Required: If you wish to retain any videos that haven’t been viewed in the past 36 months, please download them from Panopto and save them in OneDrive before the cleanup date:
  • How to download existing videos from Panopto
  • How to save videos in OneDrive
  • Future Changes: This is the first step in optimizing Panopto storage. As part of our ongoing efforts, we encourage you to carefully evaluate which videos you need and store them in OneDrive for long-term access.

Important Reminder: Panopto does not have the capability to automatically notify individuals about upcoming video deletions. However, the IL team will proactively reach out via email to individuals whose videos are scheduled for automatic deletion on February 9.

To support faculty who require assistance with transferring videos from Panopto to OneDrive, IL is hosting online Panopto clinics.
