October 16 is the International Day of Action for Academic Integrity (Day of Action). This year we will host pop-up events at the North, Lakeshore, IGS and 110 Carrier Drive. More information will come about those events soon, so stay tuned!

Leading up to the October 16, we invite educators to share their strategies for promoting academic integrity in their learning environments. By sharing your methods, whether through fostering a culture of honesty, integrating integrity into course design, or modeling integrity in the classroom, you can help create a richer dialogue on this crucial topic. Let’s collaborate to inspire best practices that support students in upholding ethical standards in their academic journeys. Please share your ideas by going to the Creating a Culture of Integrity: From Start-Up to Sunset website and entering your successes.

If you have questions about this content or want to talk about academic integrity please contact Jennie Miron at jennie.miron@humber.ca.

At the Lakeshore Learning Commons (L1000), the Grab 'n Go Food Bank is a FLAS partnership with the Library and the Faculty Union.

In October, the Grab 'n Go at the Lakeshore Learning Commons (L1000) will run every Tuesday.

Please note the upcoming Tuesdays when food will be available:

  • Tuesday, October 1
  • Tuesday, October 8
  • Tuesday, October 15
  • Tuesday, October 22
  • Tuesday, October 29

How does the Food Bank work?

  1. Members of the Humber community who are experiencing food insecurity or hardship are encouraged to stop by the Lakeshore Learning Commons (L1000) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  2. There they will encounter a cart with a selection of non-perishable and fresh food items.
  3. They can take what they need. It's that easy!

Can I help?

The Grab 'n Go Food Bank at the Learning Commons (L1000) is a FLAS partnership with the Library and the Faculty Union. If you would like to contribute, food donations are always welcome and appreciated. All donations can be dropped off at the Learning Commons (L1000) or the Lakeshore's MED building, 3rd floor.

Together, let's help fight food insecurity and ensure all members of our Humber community have access to food.

Humber Polytechnic's award-winning Journalism Advanced Diploma program continues to be a leader in journalism education. The program has relaunched its flagship student publication, Humber Etc., on Village Media's proprietary Villager system, representing a significant advancement in journalism education at Humber.

As the first post-secondary publication on the Villager platform, the Humber Etc. website offers a professional, contemporary design that will serve as a hub for hyperlocal news coverage of the campus and surrounding areas. Students will benefit from the latest online publishing tools, gaining invaluable hands-on experience that will prepare them for the evolving media landscape. The site will also feature free classified ads, polls, an event calendar, and directory listings for campus groups, enhancing student engagement and community building. Humber Polytechnic has released its Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDIB) Action Plan. The plan lists four EDIB Areas of Action that provide clear direction and prioritize key institutional EDIB initiatives in the most impactful areas. The Areas of Action reflect a structured approach for EDIB work that will foster alignment across institutional plans, enabling cohesive efforts and a unified vision.

The Areas of Action within the Action Plan are:

  • Inclusive Campus Culture and Organizational Leadership;
  • Equitable Student Success;
  • EDIB Learning Innovation; and
  • Collective Action and Community Engagement.

Each of these areas include a series of actions that will be undertaken from 2024 to 2028. Going forward, the Office of EDIB will collaborate with the community to communicate and approach implementation, gather feedback, and consistently monitor progress and effectiveness of initiatives aligned with the overarching EDIB metrics.

You can read the EDIB Action Plan on the Inclusion and Belonging webpage.

Also, stay up to date with the EDIB Team by joining our mailing list. You can register online.

Thank you to everyone who continues to advance EDIB with intentionality, making Humber the inclusive community it is.

Dear Humber community,

At Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber, we believe that inclusion and belonging are values and essential pillars that strengthen our community, enrich our society, and shape our collective futures. Our commitment to fostering an environment in which every individual feels valued, respected, and included is unwavering. Belonging is our bedrock as we are dedicated to actively embedding inclusion across all aspects of the student experience.

The Importance of Inclusion and Belonging

Inclusion and belonging are essential to the well-being and success of our community, rooted in compassion, care, and empathy for one another. When we embrace diversity, we celebrate our unique brilliance and empower each other, creating space for growth and understanding. By fostering an inclusive environment, we enhance the educational experience and build the strength to contribute meaningfully to society. A community in which everyone feels they truly belong is one where innovation, creativity, and collaboration thrive, powered by our collective care for each other.

Our Shared Responsibility

Creating a culture of inclusion and belonging requires the collective effort of every member of our community. It is our shared responsibility to be considerate of others, challenge biases, stand against discrimination, and support one another. Together, we can continue to build a community of care in which everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

Be a Builder of Brilliance:

We encourage you to actively participate in fostering a sense of belonging on our campuses. Engage in our on-campus events, learning and development sessions, foster an open dialogue with other faculty and academic leaders about how you can help foster an inclusive community. Your involvement is key to creating a supportive and respectful environment for all.

Today we launched the Building Connections: An EDIB Action Plan which details the actions the Humber/UofGH community can do to continue to foster an inclusive campus culture. The EDIB Action plan outlines how inclusion and belonging is at the forefront of everything we do. We encourage you review the full plan at https://humber.ca/inclusion-belonging/edib.
