Humber Polytechnic is a Smoke-Free

Over the last year, we have connected with more than 1,600 students alongside 40 professors in their classrooms offering a free beverage and a welcoming space to chat and connect about all the supports, events, and offers that are available to students.

The Sip & Chill Mobile Resources Cart can be booked to come to the classrooms at either North or Lakeshore campuses.

How does it work?

Professors/faculty members book the cart to arrive during a class break. The Sip & Chill Mobile Resources Cart will ready to join the class during break to offer students information about student resources, upcoming events, giveaways, and a complimentary beverage.

How to request a visit?

Professors/faculty members can schedule a visit from the Sip & Chill Mobile Resources Cart to arrive during their class breaks using the online booking form or QR code. Reservations are limited to one visit per class per semester.

Summer bonus: If you make a referral to your colleague who then books the Sip & Chill cart, we will come back to your classroom for a second visit this semester.

If you have additional questions or if you need an alternate date option for booking, connect with Tuba at tuba.chishti@humber.ca and we will try our best to accommodate.

Poster for Humber Polytechnic is Smoke-Free.

Humber Polytechnic aims to ensure a healthy working and learning environment for the community and recognizes the health hazards associated with smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. Humber became a smoke-free campus on January 1, 2019, with the introduction of the Smoke-Free Campus Policy.

We would like to take some time to remind our community of this Policy. This Policy applies to all students, employees, contractors, the general public, and any other visitors on campus grounds. Smoking is prohibited on Humber property including all campuses, buildings, spaces, and grounds (including outdoor spaces), with a few special exemptions, which are described in the Policy. The use, sale, and promotion of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, vapour products, tobacco products, cannabis products, and any other smoking products on Humber property is prohibited.

Signage indicating the prohibition of smoking of any kind on Humber property is found throughout all campuses, including in outdoor spaces. We encourage individuals to contact the Department of Public Safety at 416.675.8500 (non-emergency) should smoking of any kind be observed on Humber property. Those found in violation of the Policy may be subject to remedial action.

We thank all members of our community for their adherence to this Policy and assisting to make our campus smoke-free. Together, we can create a healthy working and learning environment for all.

For more information, please review the Smoke-Free Campus Policy.

Humber’s newly released 2024–2025 Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP) Annual Report highlights the measurable impact of our continued effort towards sustainable campus operations and innovation.

Since 2015, Humber has reduced energy use per square foot by over 30 per cent, water use per student by 19 per cent, and absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 13 per cent, while generating over $14 million in utility cost savings to date – nearly $3 million saved from this past year alone.

These achievements were made possible through several major milestones, including the opening of Phase 1 of Humber’s Zero Carbon Building-Design Standard certified Humber Cultural Hub at the Lakeshore campus, and Phase 2 of Project SWITCH at the North Campus.

SWITCH achieved the installation of 1.6 km of underground piping, connecting the residences to the new hot water network, enabling residences to be heated and cooled using Humber’s new low-carbon central plant. A big step towards electrification and away from fossil fuels, enforcing Humber’s climate resilience!

In the coming years, the impact of our emissions reduction projects will see even more transformative change, as we continue advancing Humber’s Climate Action Plan towards our 2029 net zero emissions goal.

Dear support staff,

As you have heard me say many times over the last year, our Humber community is building brilliance every day in everything we do. Our support staff are central to our ability to do this, and we are delighted to welcome full-time support staff back to work.

You are the people who ensure our students are supported when they need it most. You are the people who photograph, record and write about outstanding student accomplishments. You provide exceptional care for the youngest members of our community in the Child Development Centre. You welcome students, maintain our systems, and help foster a safe and inclusive learning environment and so much more. From supporting one another, faculty and administration to partners, donors, industry and community representatives and the institution overall, support staff are an important part of every facet of our operations.

I know that these last few weeks have been challenging. Please know that everyone at Humber is so glad to have you back on campus.

You have been missed. Welcome back.

Sincerely,

Ann Marie Vaughan
President and CEO

The Longo Faculty of Business is pleased to share the September edition of the monthly Dean's Newsletter.

When:
October 15, 2025

I am writing to share a staffing update that will impact the Longo Faculty of Business.

After an extraordinary 24 years of dedicated service, Alvina Cassiani has made the decision to retire from Humber at the end of December 2025. Throughout her remarkable career, Alvina has made an enduring impact on our community. As Senior Dean of the Longo Faculty of Business, she led Humber’s largest faculty with vision, innovation, and distinction. Under her leadership, the Faculty launched groundbreaking programs, adopted new approaches to teaching and learning, and expanded global engagement. She was a steadfast advocate for growth in enrolment and for welcoming students from around the world to Humber.

Most recently, as Acting Vice-President, Marketing, Communications & Advancement, Alvina continued to serve Humber with integrity, care, and unwavering commitment. In this role, she supported college-wide priorities and guided teams with steadiness through a period of transition.

We are deeply grateful for Alvina’s outstanding leadership, collegiality, and countless contributions to Humber’s success. She has been a valued leader within the academic division and a trusted colleague to many. Please join me in extending heartfelt thanks to Alvina for her exceptional service and in wishing her every happiness as she embarks on this exciting next chapter.

With Alvina’s retirement approaching, I am pleased to share that Colin Bartley, who has been serving as Interim Senior Dean, Longo Faculty of Business, will be appointed Senior Dean for a defined term until June 30, 2027. This appointment will ensure continuity and stability within the Faculty as we navigate the years ahead.

Colin brings more than 35 years of business, management, and leadership experience across the public and private sectors in the areas of payments and expense management, business and leisure travel, and hospitality. A proud two-time Humber graduate in Culinary Management and Hospitality Management, Colin also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Guelph.

His professional background includes 11 years in the hospitality industry in operational, event management, sales, and senior leadership roles across Canada. He also spent 14 years at American Express, where he held international leadership positions in client management and field strategy. Over the past 12 years at Humber Polytechnic, Colin has served as a professor, program coordinator, and associate dean—bringing deep experience and a commitment to student success.

Please join me in congratulating Colin on this appointment and wishing him continued success in his new role.

Gina Antonacci
Senior Vice-President, Academic
