It’s officially Giving Tuesday!

At Humber, today is all about one thing: your choice. The choice to give, the choice to champion a cause, the choice to shape the kind of future you want to see for Humber Polytechnic.

The Humber Giving Well offers a simple, powerful way to explore meaningful fundraising opportunities at Humber and choose how you want to support them.

Here’s how you can use the Giving Well to make your impact today:

REMINDER: Every gift made in honour of Giving Tuesday — including gifts made through fundraisers — will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000, DOUBLING the impact you choose to make!

Because of the Giving Well, you’ll make a difference no matter how — or how much — you choose to toss into it. Every coin counts and every ripple grows.

Visit the Humber Giving Well and choose your impact

Thank you for being part of this special day of generosity. Whether you make a gift, start a fundraiser or simply share an opportunity, your choice today helps open doors for Humber students and every ripple you create makes our community stronger.

Celebrating EDIB Champions: Humans of Humber - Join The Office of EDIB in Celebrating Christine McCaw for her contributions to advancing EDIB at Humber.

Belonging grows when we share our stories. We invite you to add your voice to Humber’s ongoing journey toward equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The EDIB Champions campaign celebrates those who are making a difference—whether by sharing their own experiences or by recognizing colleagues, students, staff, or faculty who demonstrate leadership and create positive change. Selected stories will be featured across Humber to celebrate and amplify the many ways our community is advancing equity and belonging. Join us in highlighting the champions who make Humber a place where everyone feels they belong.

EDIB Champion – Christine McCaw

“For me, building an inclusive classroom starts with intentionally acknowledging the value that everyone brings to our learning environment. At the beginning of each semester, I lead an activity that explicitly draws attention to this idea. My hope is that it encourages my quieter students to speak up a bit more and helps everyone see that their contributions matter.

Throughout the semester, I try to model appreciation and inclusion in small but meaningful ways — like verbally thanking students for asking questions or joining class discussions. I might say, “That’s a great question, thanks for asking that today!” It seems simple, but I’ve noticed it helps students feel seen and valued.

I also sometimes share a short video that always leads to a very quiet, reflective moment in class. It’s the Momondo “DNA Journey” video — a reminder that we all share more in common than we think, and that all voices matter. It’s a powerful way to reinforce that message early on.

I’m not sure I can measure the exact impact these practices have, because I don’t really have classes where I don’t do them! But I do notice students often feel comfortable coming up to me after class — not just with course-related questions, but to ask about things like finding on-campus jobs, mental health support, or financial resources.

Throughout the semester, I like to sprinkle in small touches that reflect who I am. For example, I include positive quotes, images, or GIFs in my PowerPoints — little things I come across on social media about improving one’s life or staying motivated. I usually show them just before breaks or at the end of class. When I asked students if they wanted me to stop doing this, they all said no! In fact, a few have sent me notes saying how much they appreciate it.

Honestly, this practice is just authentically me. It might not work the same way for everyone, but I’ve learned that bringing your authentic self into the classroom can really help build connection and foster inclusion. When students see you showing up as yourself, they’re more likely to feel comfortable showing up as themselves too.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple — to create a space where every student feels they belong, their voice matters, and they’re part of something meaningful.”

On behalf of the Office of EDIB, thank you, Christine, for sharing your story.

We invite everyone to take a moment today to recognize and celebrate the EDIB Champions and Humans of Humber who are advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging across our community!

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday — and this year at Humber, we’re doing things a little differently. Instead of just asking you to give, we’re inviting you to choose how you want to make your impact.

We recently introduced to the Humber Giving Well, a simple, easy-to-use online platform where you don’t just have one way to give back, you have many. It gives you the flexibility to support what feels right for you -- from a faculty that resonates with you to the Student Food Security Fund to emergency bursaries that help students stay on track towards their brilliant futures.

The Giving Well is also lets you choose how you want to make an impact. This includes making a one-time donation or even starting a fundraiser of your own to rally your network and amplify your impact.

And here’s even better news: every gift made tomorrow will be matched dollar-for-dollar — up to $10,000 — DOUBLING the impact you choose to make!

Explore the Humber Giving Well.

Questions? Reach out to Melissa in Advancement and Alumni at melissa.beauchamp@humber.ca.

Whether tomorrow is your chance to join us for a meaningful moment this Giving Tuesday or begin a new tradition of supporting our students year after year, we can’t wait to see how you will make an impact at Humber.

If you already know which opportunity you want to support, feel free to make your donation!

If you want to create a fundraiser on behalf of the opportunity, you can get a head start by checking out this simple step-by-step guide [PDF] that walks you through how to sign up and start making an impact.

Join us in giving well for Giving Tuesday!

P.S. - Don't forget to come out to Humber's Got Talent at 1 p.m. on December 2 at Lynx to support your colleagues and celebrate Giving Tuesday as we raise funds for the Student Food Security Fund.

This Fall 2025 semester, the Student Feedback Questionnaire is available from November 17 to December 7, 2025; we are in the last week of this period! The Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ) is Humber’s primary mechanism for collecting anonymous student feedback on the learning experience in each course, every semester. This process reinforces Humber's shared commitment to academic quality and reflective teaching practice and facilitates the continuous improvement of the student learning experience by using insights gathered from the students' responses. SFQ results are confidential and are not used in employment or contract negotiations. This process reinforces our shared commitment to academic quality and reflective teaching practice.

Over the past two weeks, you should have received automated updates about student participation rates to help you gauge engagement if you are currently teaching a 14-week course.

If you notice that participating in the SFQ is low in your course(s), Innovative Learning recommends setting aside 20 minutes of class time to encourage student completion, and to post this announcement to Blackboard:

  • "As part of the focus on improving the student course experience at Humber Polytechnic, we are seeking your feedback on the courses in which you are currently enrolled. We believe this feedback will help us better understand the student learning experience. Your feedback is extremely important and we appreciate you taking the time to complete the SFQ. Please note that your responses and comments are anonymous. With each completed SFQ, you will also be invited to enter a prize draw; once you submit your SFQ, an invitation to enter the draw will be sent to your email.”

Please Note: While you can see how many students have participated, you cannot access the actual feedback responses until after the SFQ period closes. This ensures the integrity of the feedback process and maintains student confidentiality during the active collection period. You will receive actual feedback responses (anonymized) about 4 weeks into the next semester (expect to see the feedback at the end of January 2026).

  2. Non-perishable foods (canned goods, rice, beans, pasta), baby formula, hygiene supplies (soap, toothpaste, sanitary pads, diapers), sanitizer and wipes, towels and washcloths, bed linens (new)

Key Changes to the Registry include*:

  • Automatic Registration: Current or former partial-load employees are now automatically registered for priority consideration each semester. NO need to submit an expression of interest.
  • Updated Priority changes: priority will only apply to partial-load employees who have completed eight months of service in the last four academic years.
  • April 30 Deadline for Teaching Contact Hours (TCHs): employees must advise their supervisor in writing of the maximum number of teaching hours they wish to be assigned by no later than April 30 of the preceding year.
