Poster for Student Mental Health Supports at Humber. Details in the post.

Student Wellness and Equitable Learning is excited to share the following 2025-2026 mental health support offerings available to all learners. Guided by student and faculty feedback and aligned with Humber’s Well-being Strategy to boost the diversity of mental health supports and resources, these offerings are designed to expand the diversity, accessibility, and impact of mental health resources on our campuses.

After-Hours Mental Health Support (in partnership with CMHA Toronto)

We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto (CMHATO) to provide free walk-in and evening mental health support on campus. Starting September 15, 2025, CMHA clinicians will be available Monday to Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at both the North (LRC Building, Room 3005) and Lakeshore (L Building, Room L1017) campuses. This service ensures learners have timely access to care outside of traditional business hours.

Togetherall - Online Mental Health Community

Humber Polytechnic has partnered with Togetherall to provide learners with free, 24/7 online mental health and wellbeing support. Togetherall is an anonymous peer-to-peer platform where learners can connect, share, and receive support anytime. The community is monitored by licensed and registered mental health professionals (“Wall Guides”) to ensure safety and confidentiality. Togetherall will open to our students on September 15, 2025.

Student Wellness & Accessibility Centre (SWAC)

The Student Wellness & Accessibility Centre (SWAC) is here to support all learners looking for mental health support, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Learners have access to a wide range of supports, including:

  • One-to-one mental health support with licensed mental health professionals
  • Group-based programs and peer-led wellness workshops
  • Psychiatry
  • Primary care
  • Dietitian Supports

Updated Distress Protocol

Last year, our Mental Health Team strengthened the SWAC Distress Protocol to better support our community. If you are concerned about a learner’s mental health, please reach out to CNS@humber.ca. A mental health professional can follow-up with the learner to conduct a telephone wellness check, provide mental health support, and link them to the most appropriate resources.

Important: This service is not intended for urgent or time-sensitive concerns. Our team responds typically within 48 business hours. For immediate safety concerns or emergencies, please contact emergency services.

In alignment with Stepped Care 2.0, these offerings provide meaningful options for learners navigating diverse challenges, while reducing barriers to care. They also strengthen connections between Humber and community-based resources, ensuring our learners are supported both on and off campus - and beyond their time at Humber.

Attached to this communication are flyers that can be distributed widely across departments and classrooms. For further information or questions, please feel free to connect with Gabriela Yepez at gabriela.yepez@humber.ca.

The course provides foundational context for those less familiar with the histories, current realities, and themes embedded in reconciliation.

The deadline is approaching! All users of the North and Lakeshore Campus Athletic Facilities must upload a photo to their ONECard (Avro Mobile) profile to maintain access to gyms, fitness spaces, and athletics facilities. This includes all students and staff.

Deadline: Sunday, September 21, 2025
Enforcement Begins: Monday, September 22, 2025
Upload Now: humber.ca/onecard/myphoto.html

Why This Matters
In accordance with Humber’s Photo Identification Policy, photo ID may be required at any time “to access campus or enter a secure/controlled campus area.” Athletics facilities qualify due to:

  • Controlled entry via access gates
  • High volume of users
  • Higher-risk activity and supervised environments
  • Emergency situations where verified photos support the Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

How to Upload

  • Upload a passport-style photo and a government-issued ID for one-time verification (deleted after approval).
  • Approval is typically completed within 24 hours.
  • After September 21, access will be denied without an approved photo. Staff cannot override the gates.

Questions?

Don’t wait — upload today and keep your workout on track!

As the OPSEU strike continues, we remind everyone to remain respectful and safe when approaching or crossing picket lines.

Today, there have been incidents involving verbal threats and unsafe vehicle use. Please be aware:

  • Verbal intimidation or using a vehicle aggressively toward picketers or others may result in criminal charges.
  • Even if not found guilty, a criminal charge can remain on your record and may impact future employment opportunities.

Please remember, these are our colleagues, people who support us every day and help students succeed at Humber. Please be kind, empathetic, and patient.

When crossing picket lines:

  • Allow extra time and stay calm.
  • Avoid confrontation and drive cautiously.
  • If approached, you may say: “I’d like to exercise my right to come to work or attend classes. Please let me cross.”

To all Humber employees,

As you know, all full-time support staff at all 24 Ontario Polytechnics and colleges, including at Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber are now on strike.

All classes will continue and any changes to delivery will be communicated by faculty through email and Blackboard. Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) classes and the Real Estate program will also continue.

University of Guelph-Humber courses will run with any delivery changes communicated directly.

A list of open and operating services can be found on the Student Services section of the Humber Updates page.

Today, I sent a letter to all our students. I wanted to ensure they know that Humber’s top priority is their success and that we are committed to supporting them in all ways. This is a challenging situation for all of us. Our support staff are a valued and vital part of the Humber community and the Ontario Polytechnic and college system. We are concerned about the impact this strike will have on our students, our colleagues and our community.

It is important that we continue with our work and focus on the plans we’ll need to have in place to be able to welcome support staff back once the strike is over.

The Humber community is respectful, inclusive and collaborative. I’m confident that each one of us will continue to demonstrate these values throughout the duration of the strike and work together to ensure services and operations continue in a safe campus environment.

Sincerely,

Ann Marie Vaughan
