Smoking Cessation Resources for Employees

As of January 1st, 2019, Humber is a smoke-free campus. This means that the smoking of any form of tobacco and/or cannabis, the use of e-cigarettes, and vaping is not permitted on any Humber property. Humber recognizes that the use of tobacco, cannabis and other smoking products is a personal one. Employees who want to smoke need to leave campus property to do so. Humber will provide accommodation for the medical use of cannabis in accordance with Humber’s Accommodation for Employees with Disabilities Policy. For employees who are interested in quitting or reducing their consumption, there is a variety of resources to assist them:

Humber’s Employee Assistance Program provides full-time employees with access to telephone or online smoking cessation programs. Contact Morneau-Shepell at 1-844-880-9142 or to find out more about a smoke-free lifestyle or to register for one of these programs.

Humber will subsidize nicotine replacement therapy (e.g. nicotine patches) for employees up to a maximum of $125. To participate in this program, please contact Hiren Patel, Senior Abilities and Accommodation Specialist, at or 416-675-6622 ext. 4237.

The STOP Program is a research-based, cost-free smoking cessation workshop which includes an educational presentation, counselling support and a supply of nicotine replacement therapy. Community-based STOP workshops are listed on the Nicotine Dependence Clinic website.

The Nicotine Dependence Clinic provides a broad range of smoking cessation information and resources, including those for specific populations such as pregnant women, indigenous populations and those living with mental illness, addictions or chronic disease.

Smokers' Helpline, 1-877-513-5333, provides free, confidential one-to-one digital support to those ready to get support for quitting, including smokers, their families, co-workers or friends.

Smokers' Helpline provides proven support where and how you need it. Phone support gives you one-on-one time with a Quit Coach to help you build a plan and stick to it. Online support gives you 24/7 access to people, tools and your personal plan. Text support is with you wherever you are with frequent motivation, tools and responsive support.

Telehealth Ontario is a free and confidential service for health advice and information 24 hours a day, seven days a week in more than 300 languages. You will have access to stop smoking support through a Care Coach between 10 am and 10 pm daily and access to Care Coach Assistants 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Telehealth Ontario will offer a smoking cessation program to support Ontarians and their families by:

  • Providing evidence-informed smoking cessation supports and information.
  • Supporting callers through follow-up calls where additional supports and coaching are required.
