The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences is offering the Vietnam Study Abroad: Hanoi & Danang course to students across Humber. The course delivery in collaboration with international partner universities offers a fantastic opportunity for Humber students to develop their global experience and intercultural competencies while earning Humber credits for a general education (MILE 220) or degree breadth elective course (MILE 2200).

Students will work closely with two Humber faculty who lead the trip and staff, faculty and students at National Economics University and University of Danang, Vietnam. The course provides students with experiential learning, site visits, field trips, community services and opportunities to network with local faculty and students during almost three weeks in the cities in Vietnam (Hanoi, the capital, in the North and Danang, the driving force of development in the Central - Highland Region).

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding and appreciation of Vietnam, its history, culture, ethnic diversity, religion, business environment and people;
  • Broaden inter-cultural awareness;
  • Enhance cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Increase self-confidence and transferrable skills through a complete immersion in an international environment.

Watch this video of one of our students and teachers sharing their own experience and what students could expect to gain from the trip and find out more about this opportunity in our attached flyer.

The Program fee is $7,100 plus Humber's regular course tuition. It covers multi-city airfares (Toronto – Hanoi – Danang – Toronto), travel health insurance, accommodations at hotels, breakfast every day, lunch on weekdays, site visits, field trips and local transportation for all scheduled activities. Students will be eligible for a bursary of up to $4,000, depending on their financial needs.

We would highly appreciate it if Humber faculty, Program Coordinators and staff could help to share this course with students as an incredible option for them to get a Humber credit for a general education or degree-breadth elective course.

Application deadline: Sunday, February 11, 2024

The Humber Guardian App is designed for Humber students, staff, and faculty. It provides quick access to campus safety and security resources, emergency contact information, safety services, and a safety toolbox.

Recently, members of Humber’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, Occupational Health and Safety Services (OHS), and the Department of Public Safety, collaborated to create two new health and safety features that are now available on the Humber Guardian App:

  1. Report a Hazard or Near Miss Incident

  • Use the App to report a hazard or near miss incident. Completed submissions are sent to OHS for review and follow-up.

  1. Quick Access to Health & Safety Resources

  • Get easy access to the Humber OHS webpage, the incident reporting process and OHS contact information.

To learn about how to locate and find these new features, please watch these short tutorials, which were created by members of Humber’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. Please note you must be logged in with your Humber College account to view the videos.

Map of LRT construction at Humber College Blvd and Hwy 27

As the construction of the Humber College station for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) line nears completion, there are some important updates for the North Campus.

On December 18, a new access road will open to vehicle traffic extending from President's Way to Highway 27. Drivers can turn right from the North Campus onto Highway 27 heading southbound.

For pedestrians, it is important to note that the new covered walkway along Lot 5 from Arboretum Blvd to the new LRT station is blocked at the station due to ongoing construction. The covered walkway will remain blocked at the station until the LRT is in operation, which is expected to occur in the spring of 2024. Lot 5 users are encouraged to use the covered walkway only in the direction of campus buildings.

The public sidewalk on the south side of Humber College Blvd east of Arboretum Blvd remains closed due to the ongoing construction of the Humber College LRT station. Pedestrians traveling towards Highway 27 must cross at the traffic lights using the crosswalk at Silver Bell Lane and Humber College Blvd and use the sidewalk on the north side of the street.

Curriculum design that does not consider student diversity can create barriers or exclude students altogether from the learning environment:

  • Universal design for learning encourages creating classrooms that anticipate student diversity.

  • Fostering a community of engaged learners begins with an environment and curriculum where learners feel seen, validated and can contribute to their own learning

  • Visit Humber's Innovative Learning for strategies on Getting to Know Your Learners https://humber.ca/innovativelearning/getting-to-know-your-learners

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about accommodating students with disabilities.

Office of Human Rights & Harassment

Gender-based and sexual violence and harassment have no place at Humber. Reflected in the various policies and practices at Humber College, including the Sexual Violence Policy, Gender Diversity Policy, and Human Rights & Harassment Policy, is our commitment to combating both the hatred that led to the young women’s deaths, as well as the misogyny that continues to exist in our society today.

On December 6, 1989, 34 years ago, 14 young women at Polytechnique Montreal were murdered. This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. Humber College continues to mourn the loss of the 14 women and honour their memory. We encourage you to reflect on this year’s theme: Remember, Reflect, Respond.

On December 6, we remember:

  • Geneviève Bergeron
  • Hélène Colgan
  • Nathalie Croteau
  • Barbara Daigneault
  • Anne-Marie Edward
  • Maud Haviernick
  • Maryse Laganière
  • Maryse Leclair
  • Anne-Marie Lemay
  • Sonia Pelletier
  • Michèle Richard
  • Annie St-Arneault

Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to share that Humber College has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2024. The awards by Canada’s Top 100 are the benchmark in the GTA for workplace best practices.

Over the past year, Humber has undertaken several significant business developments to strengthen its commitment to developing career-ready citizens, providing accessible education and building a healthy and inclusive community. These developments have contributed to the success of Humber students, employees and partners.

Humber is committed to ensuring a safe and progressive work environment, and making continued advancements in technology, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and sustainability. Together, we have achieved significant milestones including:

  • The Healthy You initiative, including Humber’s Well-being Strategy and the Health Community Hub;
  • A $30 million gift from the Barrett Family Foundation to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs;
  • Humber's Institutional EDI Framework & Strategy;
  • 2023-2026 Academic and Digital Campus Plans; and
  • Cross-disciplinary collaborations through the Centres of Innovation Network.

December 6, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, is a day on which we remember and honour the fourteen women murdered at the École Polytechnique in Montréal on December 6, 1989 and others who suffer from, or have been lost to, violence against women and other gender-based violence. As well, on this day, we commit ourselves to preventing ongoing violence against women and gender-based violence more generally.

Respondus Lockdown Browser is available for instructors in Blackboard Ultra for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system and is used at over 2000 educational institutions. When enabled in assessments, it prevents students from accessing other applications and functions that are not relevant to their examination. This includes messaging, screen-sharing/capturing, remote desktops, copying/pasting, and right-click functions.

Here are resources to help you get started with Respondus Lockdown Browser:
