A friendly reminder to all Humber staff parking permit holders to please display a physical parking permit on your vehicle while parked at either Lakeshore Campus or 110 Carrier Drive.

Our contracted security company issues a City of Toronto municipal parking violation (which carries a $75 fine) to all parked vehicles that do not display a valid Humber parking permit or a paid receipt purchased from a Pay & Display parking meter.

If you are a current parking permit holder and require a permit for use at Lakeshore Campus or 110 Carrier Drive please contact us at parking.sales@humber.ca.

As many of you are aware, Panopto is a platform used for creating, managing, and sharing educational video content. To improve the management of older videos, we recently revised our storage procedures. Further adjustments to the timeline and notification method have been made to make the process more user-friendly.

Overview of Changes

  • Updated Process Videos that have not been viewed for over three years are now archived and are visually marked with a grayed-out appearance under the 'Archived' icon. Please note that due to Panopto’s platform limitations individual email notifications for video deletions are not possible. This update simplifies the process of identifying and managing videos that are set for deletion.

  • Extended Deadline The video deletion deadline has been extended to March 9, 2025, giving users an extra month to review and save important videos to OneDrive for secure, long-term storage.

Preserving Your Archived Videos If there are videos users wish to keep, they can unarchive them, download, and save them to their Humber OneDrive account. Saving videos to OneDrive is recommended for its generous storage capacity, providing a secure place for long-term storage.

Need Help? If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the IL Support Centre. We’re here to help!

Thank you for taking the necessary steps to preserve your valuable materials.

Community Outreach & Workforce Development (COWD) and the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology (FAST) are hosting the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) - District Event at Humber Polytechnic from March 17-19. This event will feature the best high school robotics teams in Ontario as they compete for four spots at the World Championship!

We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for Humber staff, faculty, and students to volunteer at the competition. Volunteers play a crucial role in making FRC events a success, contributing to the development of the next generation of innovators and leaders. By volunteering, you'll inspire and support young minds in their journey to explore STEM fields, all while being part of an exciting and rewarding community dedicated to shaping the future of technology.

We are looking for both faculty and students as volunteers:

Faculty:

We are specifically looking to recruit faculty members as judges for the event. We really want our judge pool to reflect the diversity of our students in every aspect. That means all genders, races, ages, occupations and interests are welcome. No experience needed! You will receive all the training needed for the role. Judges play a crucial role in recognizing outstanding achievements in robot design, programming, and teamwork. We will give you all the training you need to feel comfortable in the role.

Time commitment:

  • Judges Training Dinner on March 17 (typically 6-8 p.m.)
  • Event Competition Judging Days - two full days - March 18 & 19 (typically 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

More judge information and initial judge registration for events can be found on FRC's website

Students:

We are also looking for students for volunteer roles such as referees, team queuers, robot inspectors, official scorers, field resetters, and practice field attendants. We can always use help with setup and takedown as well.

For more information, please email Humber’s Volunteer Coordinator, Lynn VanLieshout at lynn.vanlieshout@humber.ca.

About the FIRST Robotics Competition

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exhilarating global robotics competition for high school students. Each year, teams of students, guided by mentors, design, build, and program robots to compete in a unique game or challenge announced at the beginning of the season. The competition encourages teamwork, innovation, and problem-solving skills as participants collaborate to complete tasks and score points within a specified time frame. FRC combines the excitement of sports with the rigor of science and technology, fostering a spirit of friendly competition and promoting STEM education. Watch a video that shows what these events are like.

During the 2024-2025 FIRST season, FIRST® DIVE℠ presented by Qualcomm, teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, we’ll uncover the potential in each of us to strengthen our community and innovate for a better world with healthy oceans.

From January 20 to 23, the Wellness Education and Programming team in Student Wellness and Equitable Learning hosted Humber Let’s Talk, a mental health campaign aimed at reducing stigma and encouraging help-seeking among students. Through wellness fairs and interactive activities—such as sound therapy healing, therapy puppies, creative expression, and open discussions—students had opportunities to connect, learn, and de-stress.

We recorded 2,725 student interactions throughout the week. This initiative successfully raised awareness of mental health resources available on campus and in the community. We also provided various activities to enhance students' ability to practice and develop self-care strategies that support their well-being. Check out the event's recap video at Life at Humber

This success would not have been possible without the dedication of our peer wellness educators and our campus and community partners, who brought these events to life. Thank you for supporting student wellness and helping make Humber a community that prioritizes mental health.

Questions about the event can be directed to Krista Elliott-Shahid, Health Promotion Specialist, at krista.elliott-shahid@humber.ca.
