Security Alert- February 11, 2026

The Department of Public Safety would like to make the Humber community aware that several students have reported that they were approached by a taxi passenger near the Lakeshore campus. The students were asked for a financial card to pay the taxi fare and would be given cash, which included extra money for their assistance. The suspects then returned a fake financial card to the students. The suspects then potentially had access to the victims’ bank account funds, could withdraw cash or make unauthorized purchases.

Do not engage with unknown persons approaching you.

Do not enter vehicles with unknown persons.

Don’t be afraid to offend a stranger by walking away.

The Department of Public Safety would like to remind the community:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and of others around you
  • Call security, or police if off campus, to report suspicious or concerning behaviour
  • Enter a place of safety with other people/witnesses’ present (e.g., coffee shop)
  • Make note of descriptions of the potential suspect / vehicle / licence plate / what was said-asked / direction of travel
  • Security is available 24 hours a day and can be reached by calling 416-675-8500, or by using a campus emergency (code blue) phone or by using the ‘Call Humber Security’ button on the Guardian App.
