Utility Failure

On occasion, a utility failure may occur at Humber. If this were to happen, follow the outlined directions for your safety and well being.

In all cases, call the Department of Public Safety at extension 4000 or 416-675-8500 for assistance.

Electrical/light failure:

Campus building lighting may not provide sufficient illumination in corridors and stairs for safe exiting. The Department of Public Safety will have, in-stock, a number of flash-lights and batteries to assist individuals to safely exit the campus.

Elevator failure:

If you are trapped in the elevator, use the emergency phone to notify Security. If the elevator does not have an emergency phone, turn on the emergency alarm (located on the front panel) to signal for help.

Plumbing failure/flooding:

Cease using all electrical equipment. Notify Security and if necessary, vacate the area.

Significant natural gas leak:

Cease all operations. Do not switch on lights or any electrical equipment. Remember electrical arcing can trigger an explosion! Shut off any source of ignition as you leave the immediate area or location/building.

Steam line failure

Immediately notify Security and, if necessary, vacate the area.

Ventilation problem:

If smokeĀ odoursĀ come from the ventilation system, immediately notify Security and, if necessary, cease all operations and vacate the area.
