Weapon

It is Humber's policy that no student, employee, contractor or visitor is allowed to have in his/her possession any weapon anywhere on campus, including buildings and vehicles.

A weapon is:

  • Any firearm (loaded or unloaded)
  • A knife or any device designed as a weapon capable of producing death or bodily harm
  • Any other device or instrument which, in the manner in which it is used or intended to be used, is likely to cause death or bodily harm

In the event that an individual is discovered to be in the possession of a weapon, the following action is recommended:

  • Call 9-911 (internal phone) and also extension 4000 or 416-675-8500
  • Do not attempt to investigate the matter

If the individual with the weapon is not in your immediate area then follow these guidelines:

  • If possible, lock and or barricade the classroom/office doors and keep individuals in the room
  • Keep students/employees in classrooms/offices and away from doors and windows
  • Take direction from a security or a police officer
  • DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY A POLICE OR SECURITY OFFICER

If the person with the weapon is in your immediate area and demands anything, follow these recommendations as best you can:

  • Do not make sudden moves
  • Do not argue with the person
  • Be careful and take your time when dealing with the individual
  • Attempt to keep students/employees as calm as possible
  • Talk calmly to the person with the weapon
  • Learn as much as you can about the person
  • Be observant. Mentally record a detailed description of the individual
  • Take direction from a security or police officer
  • DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY A POLICE OR SECURITY OFFICER
