How can advisors foster genuine connections, coach learners toward personalized success, and enhance their human capital? 

Join us from May 14 to 16  for the ninth annual Humber Advising Conference: Coaching for Success: A Human Approach to explore top practices and trends in Academic and Career Advising.

The Humber Advising Conference provides a forum for engaging in academic and/or career advising approaches, high impact practices, and pedagogy.  The conference offers opportunities for advisors to stretch their learning beyond their foundational skills and competencies, and to become connected with a network of like-minded college and provincial advising practitioners.

HAC embraces the Ontario Association of Advising Professionals (OAAP) academic advising competencies model and the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) career advising competencies framework.

If your role involves academic or career advising and you are interested in further honing these skills, be sure to save the date!

Revised Payment Requisition Submission Process

In keeping with accounting and auditing standards and best practice, please be advised that effective immediately, supporting documentation is required for all payment requisition submissions.

Supporting documentation includes but not limited to an invoice, contract, agreement for services etc. Kindly note that all supporting documents must indicate that Humber College is required to pay a specified amount as well as the payee must be clearly identified on the document.

Below are instructions for completing the payment requisition form going forward.

Instructions for completing the payment requisition form:

1. Requisitioner Information: Person completing the payment requisition form must include the following on the form:

a. payee information
      i. All fields are mandatory except SIN# (leave SIN# blank)
      ii. FUND, ORGN, ACCT, PROG, AMOUNT, TAX CODE must be completed.
b. detail sections
      i. Include purpose of payment
c. add requisitioner’s name (person completing the form)
d. signature (sign the form)

2. Requisition Review & Approval: The Budget holder must review the requisition if the requisition is being approved:

a. Add approvers name
b. Approvers Signature (approving requisition acknowledges amount on requisition will be charged to the FOAP indicated)

3. Payment Requisition Submission:

a. Email signed and completed payment requisition form to accounts.payable@humber.ca
b. Include in the attachments original invoice and or supporting documentation.

To avoid delays and return of the payment requisition form, please follow the steps above. For further assistance and clarification, you may contact accounts.payable@humber.ca.

Artificial Intelligence and Faculty Experiences

Hello all faculty and instructors:

We are an interdisciplinary Humber team working on a Pillar 3 Innovative Learning project titled, Teaching Students To Research & Write With Integrity In The Digital Age – A Faculty Program. Our project goal is to create a toolkit for faculty who wish to learn more about artificial intelligence and ways to engage with it in teaching and learning settings.

We also want to curate faculty/instructor exemplars that demonstrate how artificial intelligence can be used wisely in higher education. If you are a faculty/instructor at Humber who has engaged your students in using artificial intelligence to learn, we would love to hear from you. Our hope is to have these examples available for others to consider as they look to operationalize artificial intelligence in their courses.

Accessible Learning Services Best Practices Considerations - Alternate Dates for Tests and Exams

Accessible Learning Services shares some best practices considerations:

  • Students may have one test/exam per day and/or have a day between tests/exams listed as a disability-related accommodation on their Accommodation Letter. 

  • Students with this accommodation may submit a request to faculty to write a test/exam on an alternate date when there is more than one assessment scheduled on the same day or if assessments are scheduled on consecutive days.   

  • Students may be absent for disability-related reasons on the day of a scheduled test/exam. 

  • Consider creating an alternate version of each test/exam that can be used during the semester as needed to address accommodations related to absences and/or requests for alternate test/exam dates.
